The TSA could be the biggest waste of my life...ever. I was going through security today and ducked under the rope to get through to the front of the line in the same place I've done so for the last 6 weeks at this airport. As I was about to show my badge to one of the guys there he says, "You can't duck the rope, you have to show your badge to X guy over there."

"Ok" I say and go and show X guy my badge.

The guy I was pointed to says, "No you you need to show HIM your badge."

Turns out "him" is some 19 year old kid that makes sure your drivers license has the same name on it as your ticket. I asked the TSA guy if this kid worked for the TSA and he said he didn't.

THIS is how these pukes are protecting MY cockpit? Making sure somebody that isn't even part of the TSA inspects my freaking badge? The kid didn't give it a 2 second look and shrugged while I went on my way.

Glad to know they're inspecting badges and snagging guys that aren't legally drunk!

Hey John, dont be dissin' the "Mr. ID checker" That was one of my MANY jobs at Comair for two years;) Seriously that was the worst thing we did. I'd rather be in an open de-ice boom in 20G35 winds when it was 10 below and blowing snow.

I thought the min was .019 and that was the reason for this being the SKYW max allowable. The FAA is .04 BAC right? I dunno, if this guy was busted for this I have to defer to my good senses and suspect that the TSA, are once again, throwing their pannus around again.
 
I'll have to ask the good Dr. Forred when he gets back from Kansas!

A pilots job is definitely to fly the plane. However....if the FFDO program is available and a pilot wants to enter into the program then that is their option. It's just another tool to prevent the unthinkable in my opinion. One FFDO who happened to show up to an airport with alcohol in his system doesn't mean the entire program is broke.

I have no issues with the FFDO program. If I ever ended up on a flight where the hijackers were trying to get into the cockpit I wouldn't really mind if the Capt. or FO had a clip or two ready to empty into the hijacker. There are after all 2 pilots up front.

You have your opinion, I have mine.

Except unfortunately the pilot's name is ruined already. If his blood alcohol was only 0.016, why are we hearing about this?

Can someone explain to me why we don't employ TSA here in San Francisco, and why it's been reported that we have amongst the best security?
 
A friend of mine will smell like booze more than 10 hours after drinking. He sweats a lot. Is it possible that could be cause for the smell?

Sensationalism before FACTS. Now a pilot's name has been dragged through the dirt. I hope he has some sort of recourse for the defamation that has occured.

I'm not a fan of frivolous lawsuits, but misprinting someone's BAC by a factor of 10 sure warrants having the crap sued out of you.
 
What a joke.
I'm sure 100% of the people that see me stumbling out of the FBOs sleep room at 2am could say I'm drunk. If the media has such a hardon for drunk pilots they should look at the effects of fatigue and the comparison to BAC.
And for those knocking the FFDO program. Pick another thread. Don't spin this local news story into anything more then poor reporting.
 
Yeah, well, this is the airport where they stationed a cop in the can to make sure people weren't getting a little action.

Not to pick on Minnesotans, but don't they have better things to do there in MSP?
