Ferry Pilots

He doesn't get it.
You're right...I don't get it. Talking about apples and oranges right??

Because talking about paying for a type rating is totally different than me using my flight benefits to get somewhere to ferry a plane.

That's just it...you people are blowing this way up. How is using flight benefits anything near paying for my own type rating?

Yes, it's is.

Paying for a type and abusing travel bennies are way different. Granted, I wouldn't pay for a type, it's a different ball game and totally acceptable for contract pilots. If I was hired, I would expect to be typed by the company.

Hell, I ran into a guy at a bfe airport and got to talking about Saabs. He asked for my contact info and was willing to send me to recurrent if I could do contract flying for him. They fly 200 hours a year.

That's pretty awesome!

And yeah using travel benefits and paying for your own type are two different things, but the situation I presented is similar.

Very similar. In fact, that's the main reason these jobs get out..... The guy seemed cool. Nice looking bird too!

By the way, he responded to me. I guess I'm not a moron. I will sleep soundly tonight!

that sounds like a sweet change of pace from day to day same old

contracting saabs seems like such a weird niche.

Here's a good link for those of you that are on me for using my benefits to ferry planes.

Read the paragraph just above the yellow highlighted paragraph on the home page.

These guys have been around for awhile and manage to have tons of pilots flying on airlines for free to go ferry airplanes. So email them and and get all the pilots info so you can jump down their throats. Or email their airlines and have their benefits yanked.

Scroll down:

"Time-Builder Flights:
Some clients trying to save money will consider using a lower-time pilot wishing to build time. These flights generally are in smaller aircraft, like Cessna 150's, 172's, or Piper Cherokee 140's. The pilot is not paid (although we remind the client to tip at least $100 for a job well done) , but the expense of fuel, needed motel and meals, and necessary ground transportation are covered by the client. The pilot must get to the plane and home from the destination on his own, but the total cost to the pilot is often less than renting would have been for a cross-country adventure, and these flights are very popular."

I'd like to extend a big F you to whoever manages this website.

Seriously F that. That is extremely bottom feeding and I feel bad for actual legitimate ferry pilots of which we have a few on our forum here.

So since he's been around a while that makes it right? Lorenzo was around for a while too.

It'd be fun, but my current situation isn't really conducive for the types of trips they do. Maybe one day....

Well based on a google search that seems to be the standard for ferry service. And most everyone on this site throws out the idea of ferrying as a way to build time. Where do you find ferry jobs that pay good? Google only brings up the above mentioned.

It's about knowing people, not google searching.

No, it's the standard for scumbag operators....

Bwahahahaha... and guys are flying these trips for free too... So just so I'm not reading this wrong please clarify. You are going to inappropriately use your non rev benefits to get to an airplane you are going to basically fly for free? Where is JHugz when you need him? I guess my reasoning skillz are quite up to par..... UNLEASH THE JHUGZ!
Just because they are doing it doesn't make it right or ok to do it.... there are people out there embezzling money from their companies without getting caught but it doesn't make it right.

Well ignore the pay and all that for a moment. Just think about them being around for so long and what that says....

It says what I've said a long time ago. There are TONS of pilots that use their benefits for "commercial" reasons. It is common place apparently.

A fair number of pilots cheat on their wives... enough to say its common place.... does that mean its ok then?

You just don't get it... Just because it happens a lot doesn't make it right....
