FedEx plane catches fire at Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport

FORT LAUDERDALE-HOLLYWOOD INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, FLA. (WSVN) - A FedEx plane has caught fire at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Friday afternoon, shutting down the airport.

Officials have ordered a complete ground stop at the airport for the time being, so travellers should expect delays.

The plane has since been sprayed with foam by rescue crews on the runway and is now under control, as of 6 p.m.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the main landing gear on the FedEx 910 aircraft collapsed and then caught fire. The aircraft then rolled off the runway.

According to reports, the FedEx jet was arriving at FLL from Memphis, Tennessee, when the incident occurred.

You mean Fedex 647, where the crew and jumpseaters were busy tossing Christmas presents and luggage out the L1 door while the fire was raging inside and outside the aircraft, instead of egressing out of the plane?

Someone on Myspace said that they have a relative arriving soon at FLL. Unless they are jump seating from MEM, I think they'll be alright.
