FedEx Jumpseat

So at the moment I'm in Boston with family for a while courtesy of FedEx. Took an MD-11 from ANC to EWR the an A300 up to BOS. I have to say everyone I met was a class act and it was an very good experience over all. I was in the jumpseat for most of the flight on the MD-11 (with three other folks in back) and the Captain made it point to turn around and say "And since you're a pilot, make sure you speak up if you see anything weird."

I'm definately looking forward to the trip back as well.

FEDEX Jumpseating Rocks!

The crews are awesome and using Fedex allows me to get from DFW to ONT in one leg and early enough for a 5am show. How sweet is that! :)

Hey bob, you're in ONT? do you ever fly into FAT? well if ur ever stuck in so cal give me a call so i can return the favor.

Fedex has a direct DFW to ONT? I would think UPS has one too.

As far as I know, yes. At a minimum you need to be in CASS, and with UPS there's a reciprocal list. I only know that because I called them as well and my company is not on it.

These are open only to Pt 121 guys, correct?

Negative ghostrider....They are open to anyone within the one great word: CASS :D I guess thats the only good thing the TSA has done....

Not sure if you need a recip agreement with FedEx to jump tho, although my company has one with them

If this is such a great word then I must add it to my repertoire. Anyone care to supply a definition to go along with this great word? Thanks a million! :)

Actually, CASS was primarily developed by ALPA. The TSA just signed the paperwork saying it was ok by them.

Make sure your CASS is working though. No picture in CASS, no jumpseat on FedEx. I know of guys who had the text stuff in CASS, but for some reason or another their company didn't do the picture/passport linkage stuff, and they were stuck.

Have to be CASS.. No if ands or buts.. Our Jumpseat folk can be a little bit of pain with rules and such but they are always extremely friendly and helpful... And there is always a warm body on the phone/desk 24/7... Good Luck.. And if you are jumping on the Bus, it can get cold in the back so remind me to turn up the heat!

Yeah... I'm in ONT now... and yes we fly into FAT. I'll have to remember that you are there next time I'm in!

Fedex goes direct from Fort Worth Alliance and UPS goes direct from DFW. For now... Fedex has a slightly better schedule for me and there is never any competition for the very uncomfortable JS on the 727 at 3:45 in the morning. ;)

Is it possible to check loads on FedEx through that phone number?
It's not like there's a lot of folks to compete with (depending on the route)... but like TallF said... they will let you know.

I'm not sure about Fedex... but I've been told that if you are confirmed in the JS on UPS then it's yours, and you can't get bumped even by a UPS JS'er. That's why it's so important to cancel it if you decide not to use it or you can be blacklisted for abusing their system. Maybe Don can shed some light on that one.

Also... one of the other issues with using either of the two is transportation. ie; You park your car at the UPS ramp at your airport and commute to work. On the way back... American looks like a better option. Now you have to figure out how to get from the pax terminal to the cargo ramp to get your car. Likewise... once you reached your base on the commute to work, you have to figure out how to get from the cargo ramp to your terminal so you can get to work.

Taxi's, hotel shuttles, rental car shuttles, & fuelers (if you have a sida badge) are all options... but it definately takes some pre-planning and maybe a few extra bucks.

My experience was quite pleasant the one time I FedEx'd myself from ORD to DEN. I had to take a cab from the main terminal in ORD to the FedEx ramp. However in DEN, the hotel I was staying at was 2 doors down from their crew hotel and the Captain had the driver drop me off at my hotel. They're great crews and a joy to ride on.
