FedEx App Window Open

Who am I? Where are my pants?
FedEx application window open, apparently through the end of May.

In another indication of how the hiring landscape is changing, turbine PIC apparently no longer required.

Buy you know as well as everyone else that you won't make first round without Turbine PIC! And it better be in the 2,000 range.
I wonder why they changed the application requirement though.

Do you still need to be type rated in the space shuttle to be considered?

Albie Hagan (from Emerald Coast Interview Consulting and a 13-year FedEx pilot) has been very candid both over social media and at his seminars that FedEx was swiftly knocked off their high horse these last couple years once the legacies started hiring.

They recognize that they're no longer the king-of-the-hill and no longer attracting the best and the brightest, and like SWA are changing their hiring expectations to match the changing landscape.

That doesn't come from me, that comes from the guy who has helped more than 1,000 pilots get hired at the airlines over the last decade and has an enormous amount of insight about not only the overall picture, but also how things look from the inside at FedEx.

Here's what he posted on a Facebook group about it:
Okay..window at FedEx is finally open. This FCIF was copied from another aviation site, not the PFC page...but its accurate:

The online window for external pilot applications is now open and is tentatively planned to remain open through May 31st. Applicants will find a list of qualifications as well as general Q&A about the process on the website.

FedEx pilots will find the online recommendation form at the same website. Please use the online form to provide your feedback regarding an applicant. Since meet-and-greets are no longer being conducted, the online form is the surest way to keep your recommendation tied to a candidate.

Last Monday we started a class of new hires, most of whom were internal employees. Most of those pilots will be MEM A300 FOs. Three B757 FOs are going to HKG. The hiring pool is effectively empty, but we still have a few internal applicants who have completed the interview process and are waiting for class dates. Immediate authorized hiring plans are for 13 HKG FOs and 4 CGN FOs. We do not require any pilot, including new hires, to bid or accept an FDA position. Further hiring will likely not occur until summer. As of today, future domestic and further FDA hiring numbers have not been finalized.

An upcoming business update will shed more light upon aircraft acquisitions, system form, domiciles, and more detailed hiring plans.

For what its worth--we are in a huge cost cutting mode at FedEx, but we are also buying back vacations each month from many pilot seats, indicating manning is fairly tight. My 13 years year has shown the spigot will open with a goal (200 year is the current number I hear) but then periodically wicket down whenever there is a cost problem--off site simulators, slowed aircraft deliveries, etc. My best guess is we seem to hit about 70-80% of whatever hiring targets get announced at various trade shows, etc. Couple of points to this. First--if you really want FedEx, its finally happening. That's good news. Second--if you delay a class or interview for any reason, you may just miss a wave. If you want a FedEx job, take the first interview/class offered. They stop frequently. We have kept people in the pool for over 4 years. Not every poolie was subsequently offered a job after a re-interview. There is no seniority, benefits, or guarantees in a pool...period. Finally, don't come to FedEx expecting rapid advancement. Its a great gig, with a lot of good pilots and a lot of good places to fly, but you are going to be on reserve, flying middle of the night type flights, more than likely for years, not months. Don't judge FedEx by what that guy hired in 1998 or 2002 is doing, but rather look at the bottom 400 names on the list for a realistic picture of life in Purple.

Candidates for jobs involving handling or access to U.S. mail cannot be considered for employment if they have resided outside the U.S., Guam or Puerto Rico for more than (6) six months during the last (5) years prior to today's date,

Well that's lame

I threw in my app today for s#its and giggles, but didn't attempt the aviation knowledge test, yet, because it would probably kick my butt without studying. But honestly, I would only be interested in the CGN base.

Anyone else having trouble porting their PilotCredentials data over to the FedEx.PilotCredentials.com site? I asked on APC and looks like I'm not the only one.

I have quite a lot of data for the flying hours, past employment, and previous domiciles (thanks, Obama!), and I'd much rather fly my lazy flag and just port in what I've all ready spent time entering and checking for accuracy. Plus, damn...I paid my money for a service, and it would be nice if, you know, they actually were able to provide the service I paid for.

The email I received back from the pilotcredentials technical folks was clearly written by someone who missed their calling to be a press agent for a politician:

We are working to get this feature back online as soon as possible. This will in no way diminish the chances of being selected as a candidate for a pilot position at FedEx. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Is this one of the "blame Obama for everything" joke or is there really some newly mandated data request by the Feds? Sorry, not going through the process at this time.
