Hello everyone,
Please share your suggestions and experiences about FBO in Massachusetts like Horizon Aviation, and Executive Flyers Aviation.
Specifically, insterested in whether they are good for career training or just for PPL. How about cost wise?

Thank you

I go to King Aviation in Mansfield at 1B9 and it is a fabulous place! I looked at Horizon but King was cheaper and had a family atmosphere. Everyone is so friendly and the instructors are some of the best around! The fleet is all new and I love training.

I've been to Executive Flyers. It is a little expensive, but I am used to cheaper prices (see my other post under changing careers). But the nice thing is you can do Acro and the main instructors are top notch.

I'm actually getting a checkout in Beverly next Friday, so I can tell you how the Beverly Flight Center is.

I'd second 1B9. I have only rented from them, but the family atmosphere is true, and they've very down-to-earth and helpful. Great prices for well-maintained airplanes. The instructor I did my checkout with was great, too.

They also keep a list of pilots who are looking to split time, which is a definite cost-saver in the long run.

Check out East Coast Aero Club in Bedford, MA. Really nice place with plenty of airplanes (Cessnas and Pipers), top notch maintenance, and even insurance that covers the renter.

I'll be relocating to the Boston area. Any recent opinions on Executive Flyers vs East Coast Aero Club? Anybody work as a CFI for either of these outfits? I'll be asking them for a part-time CFI gig....

I learned to fly in MA (KORH). Would recommend East Coast Aero Club, but keep in mind, Hanscom is a super busy field. Not necessarily a good thing for flight training.

I'll ping some CFI's I know up north and see what they recommend.

I CFI'd at Executive Flyers for ~3 years, feel free to PM me. My guess is that East Coast would be more likely to hire a part-time CFI. They are more of a "flying club" and rental center. EFA generally doesn't hire unknown part-timers, and they are more orientated towards a "flight school" and training center.

If I had to choose between Horizon and EFA I'd go with the latter (disclaimer: it's been over three years since my last flight with Horizons, things change) EFA is probably the most expensive school in the area. ECAC is not bad, they offer Part 61 only in case that matters for you. For PPL it probably doesn't matter. For career training it's EFA or Beverly. Both offer tailwheel and acro training BTW. Beverly trains career students for a local college.

Hanscom is not that busy by Northeast standards, not even close to HPN or TEB or even MVY/ACK during warm months. Also couple years ago ECAC acquired a bankrupt FBO and now they operate out of OWD too.

I've flown out of plymouth (KPYM) with alpha one and westfield (KBAF) with west field flight academy formally five star flight academy. some websites still list them that way. If Alpha is still like it was 2-3 years ago I can recommend both for their casual feel and attitude.

on a side note does anyone know of flights schools with a 182 or other 200+ horse airplane? I'm looking to fill in that puzzle piece on my cert and i've only found those types of birds by boston (EFA/1B9) and Hartford CT both are fairly long hauls form where I am in central MA
