Favorite (Aviation) Movie

There is simply no way that you can count a Corsair as having more 'style' than a Mustang....The Corsair is a dumptruck, while the Mustang is, well, a MUSTANG. Short of an SR-71, the Mustang is possibly be most aesthetically pleasing piece of military hardware ever created, IMHO. True, the Mustang was not a ground attack aircraft, nor was it ever meant to be. In the role for which it was designed, air to air combat, the lower drag of a slimmer liquid cooled V-configured engine is more logical. If the fight was against ground targets, I'd take the P47 over the Corsair. Against airborne targets, though, the finest Allied fighter of WWII was the Mustang, again in my humble, inexperienced opinion.

(The finest fighter of WWII could very well have been the FW190)

I believe that the F8F was faster than the D model of the Mustang, but to be fair, it was a newer design by that point. To do the apples vs apples comparison, I think you would have to compare the P-51H to the Bearcat. The H model was a refined, higher performance Mustang.

Another nominee for favorite movie: The McConnell Story. A great aviation movie.

F-51s did ground attack, as did P-51s. And they were pretty good at it.

The last air-to-air combat of these planes was in 1969 when Honduran F-4U Corsairs fought Salvadoran F-51 Mustangs.

That would've been interesting to see.

The Dominican Republic operated their F-51 Mustangs as their only front-line fighter plane until 1985.

Hey SDpilot, have you read any of the previous posts? Specifically mine six posts above yours.

Flight of the Intruder, just for the Skyraider footage.

Strategic Air Command, great inflight footage. June Allyson is hot.

Yeah, Strategic Air Command had some amazing in flight footage. Other than that it was pure propaganda from the 50's (which makes it worth watching just for the whole "duck and cover" mentality).

Another hijacked thread:

June Allyson (sp?) ie really hot. Jayne Mansfield, Lana Turner, Marilyn, Rita Hayworth. All are extremely attractive women, far more so than today's crop of two dollah ho's.

Again, IMHO.
