My home field, MKC (Kansas City Downtown) is cool, as the Missouri River encircles the field and you take off or land right next to the downtown skyline.
I like little airports. One of my favorites is K81, Miami County in Paola, Kansas. It's not too far outside of Kansas City and a quick flight will get you there for some great barbeque. It's such a quiet little airport, but there's a nice big ramp area with a barbeque restaurant right on the field. It's always hopping with aircraft flying in for food, and nothing beats flying in at dusk on a hot summer evening with friends for some food.
I do some flying out of 0N0, which really could mean "oh no!" as the runway is 2700x20 and in pretty bad shape. On the north end, big trees require you 'chop n' drop' when landing south, and the first 500' of the north end of the runway is pretty much unusable due to a sharp upslope. It's as down home as you get - old tin hangars, barbeque and beer on Wednesday nights, a great little flight school that is as 'homey' as you can get, with a sign on the door saying "congratulations, you've just landed on the narrowest paved runway in Missouri." It's appropriately enough named Roosterville Airport, oftentimes lovingly referred to as "Roosterville International". Its a great bunch of people, very close knit, all fly-out to pancake breakfasts together. The place is a little slice of heaven just outside of Kansas City, just a bit to the east of MCI.
Two weekends ago I flew to Memphis and went to a big hangar party over at 2M8, Charles W. Baker Airport in Millington, TN. That airport gets a high ranking just based on the aircraft kept there! In the brief time I was there, I saw three Stearmans, a T-6, a T-28B, and the most gorgeous polished Cessna 195 you've ever seen.
I planned on doing my commercial x/c to Meigs, unfortunately wasn't able to get there for obvious reasons...
