\"Fate Is The Hunter\"

Hello,

Just got done reading "Fate is the Hunter" (actually got it b/c it was one of Doug's recommended books, as well as one of my CFI's). I must say that it really was a great book and I would second the recommendation. It was really motivating, yet brutally honest about professional flying. It sure wasn't like the ads that you see in Flying Magazine! I really enjoyed it, and it was so cool to read about all of Mr. Gann's experiences on the DC-2/DC-3 aircraft!

Just thought I'd throw this out there.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Another good one is "North Star Over My Shoulder" by Bob Buck. I actually think I liked it better than Fate is the Hunter! Very similar in the storyline.

"North Star" is great, I also highly recommend "The Long Way Home" by Ed Dover and "Skygods: The Fall of PanAm".

Re: \"Fate Is The Hunter\"

Wow, thanks for the suggestions! It looks like I'll have to add North Star to my library next!

I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but I'm going to do so again. An excellent history of the airline business (non-fiction, but so full of intrigue, drama, etc. that it reads like a novel) is "Hard Landing" by Thomas Petzinger Jr. As far as I'm concerned this one should be required reading for anyone considering a career with the airlines.

Re: \"Fate Is The Hunter\"

Amazon's got both books for about $30. If you go to "Fate is the Hunter," scroll down and it's got a nice little package with "North Star."

Re: \"Fate Is The Hunter\"

Got to give another thumbs up for Fate is the Hunter. There are a lot of great pilots with great stories, but not a lot of great writers. Gann was truly a great writer. His prose is a pleasure to read, his descriptive powers amazing and beautifully vivid. Among other things it gave a lifelong lover of big ole jet airliners a new fascination with and admiration for the classic propliners and those who flew them.
