Fastest Climb

Curiously enough...

For manned flight I think the Apollo rocket had the fastest climb to time ratio. I mean, the moon and back in a week has got to get some points there.

In flight service was a bit weak though.

Those are all records for that weight class, not overall records.

Working as an ATCer on a busy departure sector, I see many SWA 737s climb like champions to altitude. I love those guys. I saw one go 5000' in 2 minutes. It was awesome. May not sound like a cool thing, but I thought it was neato.

Yeah. It will climb like a son-of-a-gun... especially when she's nearly empty. She held the time to climb record in every weight class from 45000 kg to 150000 kg take-off weight (jet engines) until the B-1B took the titles in the heaviest 2 weight classes.

Long time ago I did a sortie in a B-52H. We droned around low levels for a few runs and then were cleared to climb into the 30s exiting the 'oil burner'. The BUF pegged the VSI well through the 20s. 6000fpm +

NICE! If you want, I'll PM you about the sortie I mentioned above in the -135. Fun story, but slightly close-hold.

Totally not fair!

I think it's one of those stories that will have to wait for a NJC or a meet and greet. One of those in-person things with no recording devices, and a beer or two. On second thought, Orange, no offense, but I'm not sure I'll write this one down until after I retire. I'll just have to try to get to NJC this year.

PM for sure. At one time I held a top secret crypto no-forn and there is stuff from the 'red dot one' days I don't talk about even now. But I understand.

I flew the water-wagon for a little more than 4 yrs and it was no rocket ship although I did take it down the runway once at 350kts and about 100ft. Middle of the runway, MRT and nose up to about 30deg. Bled airspeed like crazy but the crew chiefs loved it. Rug dance followed in the commander's office. My old rogue days.
