Fastest Climb

I was having an A.net debate :D with my former instructor on which airliner has the fastest climb. I know there are a ton of components to factor in such as weight and weather. However I was curious. Which one climbs the fastest completely loaded? He had heard the MD90 was pretty quick.

Not an airliner, but I talked to a guy that flew the F-104 in the RCAF. The highest he'd ever been was... I think 51,000 feet. Said it took something like 2.5 minutes to get there.

Depends on how many engines it has and how many are running. Twins will climb faster on all engines than tri's and quads as they need to meet min performance requirements with half their power out, as opposed to just a third or quarter power out.

235hp Pawnee stripped off all its spraying gear and hoppers climbs like a bat out of hell with no glider in tow.

The 260 does a bit better, but yeah... Sometimes I forget that there is no glider behind me on the first flight of the morning. Very easy to blow right through pattern altitude.

I once saw a nearly empty KC-135 accelerating at more than 25 degrees nose high pitch. It took off in under 1500' runway distance, and hit 10000' in less than a minute (from rotation, not from brake release). Not F/A 18 numbers, but still...
