Far/aim 2007

Does anyone know when the 2007 FAR/AIM will become effective, or is it already? I have a CFI ride next month and just want to make sure I have the current edition, one less thing to the examiner to pick on.

I am also pretty sure that the new CFI PTS is coming up nov 1st.

Yeah there is a date in the first couple of pages there that says when it becomes effective. When I was in CFI school it was during Dec of 2003. The instructor said my 2003 far/aim was outdated and that I should be using the 2004. He then showed me where it says it expires.

Just because it says the year across the top cover doesn't mean that is when it is good for.

I'm not seeing any effective date on the ASA FAR/AIM.

The inside cover page just says "This publication contains current regulations as of August 3, 2006. The Aeronautical Information Manual is current through March 14, 2007."

I've got a ride coming up, so if the 2007 FAR/AIM is legit yet, that would be good to know.

Yeah, when one comes out you can flip to page ii and it says when the regs are current. If you walk in there with the one that has 2007 written on the cover then you should be good.

Good luck on your ride... Dominate that thing!

Yeah, that would make too much sense for government publication. :sarcasm:
The FAR/AIM you buy from an aviation book publisher is =not= a government publication. It's a privately-published reprint of a government publication (AIM) and part of a series of continually amended government regulations (FAR).

The original government sources are never out of date. The privately-published collection might be.

Don't worry about whether the book is out =before= the FAR or the AIM become effective. Won't happen. On the other hand, parts of the book might be obsolete before it's even available for purchase (more likely with the FAR which changes when the FAA makes or modifies regs than with the AIM, which is actually on a twice-a-year publication schedule)

I just took an ATP/type oral and brought a 2006 FAR/AIM. Neither the check airman or the POI that was observing it said a word about it. It's still 2006 as far as I'm concerned. Good luck!

I think that is the thing though, when you look at the actual regs put out by the FAA, they aren't listed as "the 2006 regs" they are just "the regs".

It is when ASA, and Jeppesen gets ahold of them and publishes them in their book that they slap that year on the cover.

If your ride is with a DPE, I wouldn't even worry about it. They proably will be fine with either. If it is with the FSDO, they may be a bit more anal. The 2007 edition is the one that is current now.

Which makes sense, as does the blurb some have inside that tells the date the information is based on. That way you know how out-of-date it might be.

BTW, most of the publishers will provide periodic updates online to take interim changes into account.
