Failed Tier 2 of Psych Eval

I'm beyond frustrated at this point. I don't understand why its gotten this far. I've doing ATC for 3 yrs. This job has always come easy for me. I'm the most level headed and down-to-earth guy anyone knows. So the only thing I can think of is that they don't think I think like an ATCS. . This job is easy and its fun to me. I know a lot of controllers who think otherwise. Hell I know one who I had to pull out of under a console during an emergency bc they were freaking out and panicking.:panic: That person is now working in a tower in Luisiana. :banghead: WTF over. Need some advise here. Please.

Maybe your answers weren't consistent? I took the psych eval when I got hired a few years ago (I resigned since then, and am now reapplying...long story), and one of the things they look for is consistency in answers, which is why they ask the same questions over and over in slightly different ways.

I feel bad for you man, did they give you a reason why you failed the detailed, second exam? The only other person I heard of in this situation failed due to anxiety disorder, that don’t seem to be the case with you, maybe you can appeal or hopefully utilize your experience doing something else.

Wow.. all the <exit> people slammin this guy down have more issues than him. Grats on being the dung under my shoe.

If this post gets canned please erase all the other negative nancies, I just wanted to get this guy's back

It's easy to judge from the other side of the fence. The MMPI2 is a joke and it sucks that normal folks can ruin their chances a a career because of it.

I know there were some people on JC that talked about being a controller for the railroad industry, the money seemed good and there wasnt the govt bs.

If you were to wait a year or so when the original test would have expired can you just retake it, no harm no foul?

Did you fail the extended version of the MMPI the second time, or an actual session with a "shrink?"

Did you do ATC for the military for the past 3 years? If so that really does suck. Again, everyone on this board who is trying to make light of this, your comments are pretty messed up considering this person does seems to be upset. This is what this person had experience in and (if it were me) may be what this person expected as their career in life because of it.

bear00, there were other people at this thread http://forums.jetcareers.com/applic...s-annoucements/78781-failed-mmpi-pepc-11.html who wanted to hear of your experience and appear to keep things a little more serious. Seems like they're just curious as to what your next move is in life...

And the MMPI's validity is still debated among psychologists...

dude I'm sorry to hear about your situation. Anyone with the energy, charisma and fortitude to do the job well in my opinion deserves a chance. I don't know what steps you have taken, if any, to rectify your situation or appeal it, but one thing that I have learned through this process, from a couple different people, is to be a persistently squeaky wheel if something doesn't go according to plan.

I guess the only thing you could possibly do is try to get in touch with Aviation Careers or the rest of the AMH/HR/Facility managers and talk through it a couple of times and see if there is an avenue designed to assist you with an appeal or re-evaluation.

I'll send you a PM with some other more pertinent details a little bit later, I'm going to make a couple of calls and ask about it on my own behalf as well.

If you're on stuckmic you can PM me there under the same username.. that's the site I am on more regularly. (i'm on dialup so jumping between sites is kindof a pain)

Best of luck in the meantime, and stay level headed!

which tower was this??

im going to a tower in LA and id like to know who might crack.

i'm very sorry to hear this man. good luck in the future, hopefully you can find something else that you enjoy doing for a living.

Thanks for the all the blogs so far. I sent in the comfirmation of appeal with the flight surgeons. I sat with a new shrink and he says as far as he's concerned I perfectly normal and need no further evaluation. We don't know whats holding me back because they havent released the results from the previous tests and won't tell you anything over the phone. And for the record, you HAVE to like this job. Otherwise all the crap and test you go through to get certified will not seem worth it and your chances of washing out increase. My confidence isn't going anywhere, just a little frustrated with the situation.

Congrats, funny how much variation there can be between docs opinions. Good Luck

As someone who has failed the MMPI and taken the retest, that sucks man... I feel for you. Let us know how the appeal goes and anything that happens along the way to inform other JC applicants. Hopefully it turns out the right way.
