Failed PPL Check Ride

roconnell,

Congrats man! My check ride was a three day ordeal. Sucks about your job and apt. What school are you going too? Are you Army NG?

Thanks everyone, I was flying out of Gainesville, FL and hopefully will be around long enough to get a couple more flights in. I am in the Army National Guard.

It sounds like you learned a valuable lesson, are accepting responsibility for yourself and not blaming others. With that attitude, I don't foresee you having any problems with future employment. Let us know when you get that PPL.
I would like to second that sentiment. You sound like you are way ahead in the soft skills of being a pilot and those are the ones that really separate adequate pilots from good pilots. I predict you will be one of the good ones.

roconnell......congrats! Make sure you have fun with your new ticket! You earned it so use it! Go get yourself the "100" dollar burger, or whatever it cost nowadays......

Most of us have been there. You got it out of the way, and knows what it feels like. What are you working on next?

. Why is there a sign below the flap lever on a Cesna 172 saying avoid slips with flaps?

Actually I have first hand experience in this. We used a 172 and 182 for glider towing. After doing full slip letdowns with the flaps down we ended up tearing the top of the flap off from the awkward flow of air over the flap. It was causing torsional stress that the flap wasnt used to and there was a nice 6-8 inch piece of metal missing after. It took a while for this to develop, towards the end of the season, but it did.

HAH, i LOL'd about running the engine over square and shock cooling.

seriously tho, doing slips with flaps extended wont hurt the airplane, it just causes a disruption of airflow over the elevator and causes the airplane to "buck" if you will. If you feel confident that you can control the airplane, theres no reason that i know of not to do it.

I've done it once (simulated engine failure, do what you have to do to get it down, etc) and the yoke was going back and forth (pitch) pretty badly. Definitely caught me off guard the first time I experienced it.

Congrats roconnell!

I'm not going to be working on anything soon. The first thing I am going to do when I have the time and money is go to Jack Browns. After i'm done with my military schooling i'm planning on going to a Fast Paced School like ATP to get my Instrument, Commercial, etc..

roconnell,

Good luck with the schools. I use to love going to school because I saved all my money.
