Facility transfer n Houston Artcc

Hi everybody. I'm relatively new to this website I have been reading the many different threads on here. I have been getting some pretty good info although I do need more insight related to the whole facility transfer info though. Here is a little background on me.

I'm an air traffic controller in the army reserves. I was picked up under VRA. I just completed all my clearances and I was told by an Hr Specialist that I have a tentative class date set up for Nov 10th due to the new fiscal year. Do they usually keep your class date if they put you in for it? She told me it was subject to change and not set in stone. She informed me I won't recieve my FOL until October. From what I understand, I'm not gonna have to attend the basic course. So I show up when they graduate and I go right into enroute. My problem is I was picked up to do enroute in Houston but I don't wanna go there. The only other airport she said was available was a TRACON in Meridian Mississippi. How easy or how hard is it to switch over to terminal from enroute and what is the procedure? I really prefer to be in a tower!! Thanks for your help >:-)

Just some food for thought:

I know you have your heart set on a tower, but lots of people that end up going enroute REALLY like it. Way more than they thought they would. Also, centers are really well tailored to training since they have the airspace divided up well and are usually staffed with plenty of people. Doesn't hurt that they are mostly level 11s and 12s either. The pay is towards the top of the chart.

Just some things to consider... I like looking out the windows, too, but lots of people are pleasantly surprised with how much they actually enjoy working at a center.

I'm not trying to disagree or scare anyone but just to let you know there are more washouts at Centers than towers...

This is not correct. Simply put, do your homework before you open your keyboard. The washout rate at ZHU is roughly 30% of all new folks (numbers from a local NATCA rep). So perhaps you should just come on down to Houston a washout there.

Yes, I am grumpy. I just woke up with a headache, and I'm normally nice so let me complain a bit. If you happen to come to ZHU, we'll have to have a  together.

UTAMAV:bandit:

not to mention that partially certified (but not full CPCs) at level 11-12 ARTCCs usually get placed at lower level towers if they wash out

Working at a center is different than any other type of work in ATC you have done. The wash out rate at ZHU maybe low right now, but centers and ATC in general have had about a 50% wash out rate. One reason, I think ZHU is low right now, we are staffed very well with FPL's and trainees get the training they need.
