The following FAA downloadable aeronautical products are available to the public free of charge on our public website ( http://aeronav.faa.gov). ​

  • VFR Sectional Raster Charts ​
  • VFR Terminal Area Raster Charts ​
  • VFR World Raster Charts ​
  • VFR Helicopter Raster Charts ​
  • IFR Enroute Low Altitude Charts ​
  • IFR Enroute High Altitude Charts ​
  • IFR Caribbean and Pacific Enroute Charts ​
  • Gulf of Mexico Charts ​
  • Digital Aeronautical Chart Supplement ​
  • Digital Obstacle File ​
  • NAVAID Digital Data File ​
The current digital - Terminal Procedure Publication (d-TPP) and digital - Airport/Facility Directory (d-A/FD) web applications will continue to be available free of charge as well. ​
This action is being taken to increase the availability and accessibility of Official FAA aeronautical charts and flight supplements to the flying public. ​

Thanks for the post. Could not have come at a better time. I've got a client taking a Mooney into KHOU VFR tomorrow. Asked the FBO to order a TAC but someone dropped the ball so we don't have one. Just printed one out and, while small, it will work.
 
OK, maybe I'm a total n00b, but whenever I try to print one of these things out, it is way too small for me to read anything on a normal 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of paper.

Is there anyway to print a zoomed-in section of the chart, rather than the whole thing, so the landmarks and everything are larger?

Otherwise, I find this to be pretty neat.

Just use Paint. Cut and paste whatever you want then go to page setup and select fit to 1x1. The natural resolution should be good enough so that it comes out alright.... haven't tried it though so wouldn't know.

Still though.... very cool!

On my computer it opening in Windows Photo Gallery. I clicked on "Fix"; was then able to crop to a size a could read.
 
The couple downsides I see so far are that the files for sectionals are huge 60-70GB which makes it difficult to download in some areas or transport on some mobile devices. I am also hoping someone can come up with a simple reader that will also make it print out in the proper scale.

The files are no where near that big. They are more in the 50mb range which is very reasonable for.. well anything anymore.

Especially for something of a reasonably high quality.

I don't know of any newer phones that have anything less than 2GB of space.... in that case 50MB isn't much.
