FAA Letter

I just recieved my letter from the FAA requesting more information, court records etc. I also was asked to write a detailed statement regarding alcohol use, and the incidents. I plan on being straight forward and honest, but any suggestions or tips that could make the letter better?

While you will probably get a good answer from the AME who writes here, I'd also suggest calling AOPA. They see a lot of this and know how things progress and the general standards they see applied.

Your decision to be honest is a wise one. I've seen a great many very serious things forgiven with time, but I've also seen some very minor dishonesty issues dealt with extremely severely.

Write the letter exactly as they asked. I handle a good number of HIMS cases and find if you give the FAA what they request, you will usually get what you want, your medical.

Thank you very much, I had a minor in possesion, and a minor in pocession with a fake id on another charge so my medical was defurred. (to Nick2024)

I had a similar issue, which turned out to be zero issue with the FAA when I went to renew my second class medical last year.

I was never convicted of underage possesion (I was 19), only charged with it. My state has a first time offender's policy that lets the case be dropped, showing no record of conviction if a few hoops are jumped through.

I jumped through those hoops, and when it came time to renew my medical, submitted my paper work that documented that any and all charges against me were dropped. My AME submitted this information for me, and I never heard a peep from the FAA. I expected a warning letter saying don't get in any more trouble, etc from the FAA, but never received one. I imagine this is because I was never convicted of anything.

Good luck, and remember that within reason, honesty is the best policy with the FAA.
