FAA Hiring Question...

I applied for Aviation Safety Inspector Air Carrier Maintenance with the FAA back in November 2012 since then the posting has closed and not been re-opened, most likely due to the sequestration, cuts, ect… I did get in contact with the manager of the CMO I want to work at and he basically told me to keep in contact but they were on a hiring freeze at the time being.
There has not been a referral put out. I just wonder if I am getting my hopes up thinking that I may have a chance when the hiring freeze ends. I know the FAA gets their new year budget Sep 30 2013.
I just hear and see that most ASI seem to be older with 20+ years’ experience. I am still in my 20’s but I do have a bachelors’ in aviation science and 8 years’ experience as an A&P.
Can anyone give me any info on what their hiring experience has been like with the FAA?
Thanks

If you don't care where you will be placed/live you have a much higher chance of being hired into ASI positions.

I would be willing to move anywhere. They just asked for my top 5 choices on the application though. Is there a way to find out what fsdo or cmo has vacancies?

I am not sure how to inquire about a specific FSDO, but here is the listing for all of them, by state:

http://www.faa.gov/about/office_org/field_offices/fsdo/index.cfm?state=CA

Also, try calling here and see if that have the info on which specific offices are hiring:

Aviation Careers Division (405) 954-4657

Each FSDO has their own criteria and their own inspection mission. If you are registered on line, you can use your online ID and password to see if your application has been referred to any specific FSDOs, when and where.
