FAA Fatigue Rules

It makes you think the same forward thinkers who negotiated ASA's contract had a say in this...

You mean the jackasses that thought it was ok to make it so the company could take two days off in a row from me this week.

Our contract blows for reserves

That would be them......

And I have a feeling that things will not get fixed next time around..

We will get a no reassignment clause, or I think the pilots will burn the place to the ground.

This whole reassignment thing has been SOP for 3 years at XJT. ExpressJet Airlines, where even our line holders are on reserve!

God, I'm glad this puts an end to that. Supplementals are gonna get hit hard, but then again, they've had it waaaay too easy with that steaming pile of obnoxious "rest" regulation that is subpart S for too long.

I'm just glad the FAA has finally acknowledged that flying for a Supplemntal, especially overseas, doesn't magically turn a pilot into a superhuman.

I liked the stuff in there about acclimated vs. un-acclimated crews. Then again, an acclimated, 4-man crew with a separate bunk area can still do 19+ hours of duty legally.

Gotcha. Was hoping that fisticuffs weren't being thrown around in the 121 world.

I had a captain threaten to kick some guy's ass out on the curb of HPN airport. A guy asked if there were any suitcases in front of his car before he pulled out. captain went nuts.

My favorite part was "I'll give you a reason to have that handicapped tag hanging from your mirror"

I've seriously started writing the crazy crap that has happened to me at this job down so i can remember it all.

Y'all are a bunch of drama queens in the 121 world :D
Between your new rules and cat fights in the car parks after hours.

JK. Sounds like these new rules will improve things for the crews and that's great.

Lemme know when your finish the book. I have a order for it now.

Anyone one wager that 121 subpart S gets a waiver by the time this thing gets made into law?

Nah. Seems like theres some emphasis in the NPRM in getting everyone under the same rules...even 135 has been put on notice. And I'm with ATN_pilot...carriers might have some pull to get a few things tweaked in there, but not enough for such a major change.

How are you calculating 18 hours of duty? Did I miss a post?

It's not 18 hours of duty. It's 18 hours of clock time that the airlines control your life.

This happens because of the way the the airlines are currently allowed to count when your duty time starts and stops.

With the new rules it looks like crews are going to get a minimum of 11 clock hours rest. (this translates to 9 hours rest in your hotel room) That puts the time that airlines control your life at 13 hours per day rather than 18 hours per day.

So you will be able to fly up to 9 hours within 13 hours of clock time under the new rules.

Under current (decades old) practice a flight crew can fly up to 8 hours within 18 hours of clock time.
