FAA and TSA in 4 hours

I take it this is something that the company who actually holds the deadline would have to enforce?

I know you 135 guys have balls, tough as steel, but what about your middle level managers that babysit the loaders, etc? Do they stand up to the authorities when a deadline is close? Or are they just push overs?
Also there is very little babysitting in Columbus. It's actually a pretty impressive meet. If a ramper isn't running it's because their cart is filled with over 700lbs of work and they can't physically do it.

The rampers at TEB could take a lesson...

I have dealt with FAA investigators on the line. Without exception they've been professional, easy-going and simple to work with. Really normal guys just trying to do their jobs and not trying to bust your balls.

Never met the TSA on the ramp, but I go to BWI now and I hear they lerk around there a bit.

Yeah, I recall seeing a video of your rampers running with the bins.

No delay indeed.

:yeahthat:

I was absolutely impressed. I was late because of a late courier going in to LCK the other night. On the way in I had to plan for max load (900lbs). They had me completely fueled, unloaded and loaded with a weight slip in hand as I was coming back outside from the hazmat table. I was on the ramp maybe 3 minutes. Very impressive.

At the meet later I was there maybe 35 minutes...

Were you covering 321 last week?

I had the TSA do a "check" on our plane once while we were between flights. They walked down the aisle and back and that was it.

Yes'm.

Late all day Wednesday thanks in part to the couriers being late. On time all day Thursday thanks to luck. :p

*edit* Just looked at my trip sheet and I guess it was 8 minutes on the ramp. Still impressive though.

I've been ramped maybe 5 times flying freight. Four were totally painless because the inspectors were from the maintenance side. License, medical, can I look in the airplane? Sure. Thanks. Bye! The fifth was a couple of guys from the Dark Side. They were nice enough, but they wanted to see everything. "It says here you have corrective lenses, where are they?" "Uh, I wear contacts". Etc. And they weren't even there for me. One of our subcontractors had crashed a 210 a few weeks before and when they taxied in, the real dance began. On the other hand, I had personally told these guys that flying without a net was a bad idea...

Long and short, as long as you demonstrate a "compliance attitude" and don't win the lottery and get someone with an axe to grind, it's no big deal. But get that weight and balance done before you land...

Merry Christmas, freightdogs. Now get back to work!

Side step to the outside runway on the ILS approaches when you got jet's behind you. No worries we made it work but it's kind of a carpet dance because they dump us right behind you expecting the props to side step. Doing Ref +100 at the marker and then trying to woe it up to baron gear speed is an adventure.

I tried working with approach from the time I checked in, too...I saw the field some 30 miles out and asked for a contact approach to the other side or the other runway...no dice. Then I tried to make Delta and that didn't work either.

Next time I'll skip over though. Fa sho.

PS
Thanks for slowing for me...first night...t'was a bitch.:p I think I'm figuring out this high-speed approach stuff now, so hopefully I can fit in a bit better down the road.

Speaking of W&B, some of y'all are quick. It takes me a good 2-3 minutes from the time I shut the door to the time I can start up and taxi. There are guys that I swear 2 minutes after the door shuts they're on the takeoff roll.

I dunno how y'all do it. Very impressive.

Get the W&B done before the freight shows up, that way when you get your weight slip, and the freight to your #'s and your gone in 15 seconds.

I started doing that the 2nd night, but the W&B graph for that airplane is off...so I have to do all of the numbers "manually". Takes a bit longer that way, but still was quicker than the night before.

I'm still not sure if 15 seconds is reasonable for me, but hopefully some day. Right now I'm still so worried about #####in up the paperwork that it's hard to get to the starting engine checklist.

FNGs:banghead:

lol
What's wrong with the W&B if there is something wrong with it, it needs to be brought to the attention of MX right away.

I dropped a note to uh....uh......you know, the program manager guy. What's his name? Brandon?

I'm bad with names. It's off like 12 pounds and .000001".

Speaking of MKE...guess where minifool is this week.
