F9 and NK

What are your policies on long call conversions to short call? At my shop this month I’ve been converted 4 times. It pays 2 hrs extra on first occurrence and then 1 hr extra for each subsequent. Limit is 4, after that the pilot can refuse a conversion.

Off the top of my head, 6 times max, No more than 2 consecutive days, not your last day of reserve. BUT this is used very rarely. There is pay incentive but can’t remember what it is. Have been long call 8 months out of first year and it only happened once for one day and I ended up flying and never sat short call .

I think F9 had great reserve features but I think Alpa just screwed that up. You always bid res and relief at the beginning of the month, now it’s split. Hard lines beginning of month and if you’re not awarded anything you wait and wait for secondary relief/res bidding to open on the 21st. And you get two days to check it out and bid. Hope your not to busy flying. There are less then half the amount of relief lines under the new rules of those lines many only have 12-13 days off, and now we have FDO res lines. 12 days off in a row. Could be beginning of month, last or midddle. Maybe that’s great if you live in base, but as a commuter...
Also new is the 3x6’s three 6 day res blocks. One I noticed had two days off between them. So 6 on two off six on two off six on.
Once the bidding closes on the 23, enjoy that 1 week you have to plan for the next month.

They can change you from long call to short call 6 times per month with no extra pay, after the sixth you get 1 hour per occurrence. I’ve been changed twice so far this month. Per contract you cannot be converted your last day, however apparently it can go into your last day. Last week I was converted to a late short call period which did not end until 2 am on my last day, your day is supposed to start at midnight on long call.
We have aggressive bid, however now under the new contract the company at their discretion can award a trip to someone else if it fits their availability better. So if I’m good for 4 days but want to pick up a two day at the beginning of my 4 day block but a guy who is good for only 3 days also bids it they will give it to him. Screw seniority.
The company also has the ability to build a half month off res lines. They didn’t this month and I don’t suspect they will
It’s still better then most regionals reserve rules, it’s just a shame it went backwards...imo.

Sounds exactly the same here in terms of trips being given out via day-matching. Same thing with reserve bid, only after hard lines are done published and step trades closed (fixing illegalities, etc), then the open flying lines and reserve lines are built. Like y’all we also only have about 2-3 days to bid those before closing.

Can you explain more the FDO reserve lines? What’s that stand for? And all 12 off consecutively for the month? Never heard that before.

FDO or fixed day off. It’s 12 consecutive days off. You cannot change them Once you’re awarded. A normal reserve line you can swap days off. The fdo’s either have 12 off tobstart the month or middle of the month or end of the month.

Agree with Mooney, the new bidding schedule is horrible for reserves, plus with the MOT (open time) happening before reserve is bid, line holders can get rid of their crappy schedules. What’s left is abysmally bad!!! Almost all red eyes. I’m going to Change bases until I can’t hold long call anymore.

You guys really work that much on long call? Damn

Yeah we have only had LC for about a year, Scheduling has used it to assign trips that they cannot assign to a short call reserve such as an ORD based Pilot with a day 1 Redeye. Everyone I know that has bid long call has said never again.

I commute to reserve, that sounds really good overall. But you have a point with that too.

Not for much longer right?

Nah, assuming this deal doesn’t fall through; I am less than enthused about some of what we found on the inspection, but [Harm to ongoing matter]

I know I'm a little late to this party, but I would have to say between the two Frontier is the way to go right now. The new contracts are similar but Frontier has a decent sized aircraft order in where as we (NK) do not. Without a new aircraft order you won't ever upgrade much less get off reserve which is about to (for lack of better word) suck big time when they flip on the pbs switch, as you won't be able to drop anything. This year will be my 6th year at NK I got lucky (and I mean very lucky) and got hired at the right time and upgrade at about 3 years, and even now I struggle to stay off reserve (so much so that I live in base and commute to a different one for QOL). The last time I was on reserve was last fall and I ended up crediting 90 hours for the month, I was used every day. Good luck and if you want to message me feel free!

It'll only suck when you commute to it. In theory.

"bUt yOu cAn pIcK YoUr dAyS OfF!"

(just not your RAP, which is what those of us at the bottom of the barrel and who commute really care about...anyway)

We are all long call but there is no limit to short call conversion! And the add pay for being converted sucks. First two are free, the next three pay 1 hour add but only if they don’t use you.

Oh and field standby (same pay provision as the short call).

But I live in base and this month I only flew 10 days. 7 days on short call/long call with no call.

I never understood why reserve rules weren't a priority there. This sounds like garbage for a legacy.
Coming from a guy whose reserve was 99.98% airport standby, with 3 shortcalls in his life.

And 95% of those who have the ear of the NC don’t sit reserve and haven’t for years.
“Doesn’t effect me, not going to put in the effort...”
"Reserve is for the junior, they have to pay their dues"
le sigh
