This argument cannot be applied selectively. Either that's the case, or it's not. If that's the case, look another way and Donbass seps will go west to the nearest big river, establish a land bridge to Crimea and Transdniestr and tada.
If that's not cool, then whatever happens in Syria isn't cool either.
U.N. is not a factor - US doesn't give rats ass about the U.N. when it doesn't approve of whatever it is that US wants at the time, so no reason to wave that flag at othat times.
On the grand scheme of things it really is whatevs, we can support or not support certain geopolitical events, but it's not like that's gonna change them.

Seriously?

There has been an active civil war in that country for the better part of a decade. Look at this map, it's a little dated but it explains the situation pretty well....

That area in Grey, that's the part of Syria that isn't under any form of Syrian control. Assad can't drive tanks through there much less call it his country.

That river valley that runs from Raqqa to Al Quim, thats the Euphrates. That's all ISIS villages and the "caliphate." I'm not talking regions not in Syrian control I'm talking regions directly governed by ISIS, like they collect taxes and made policy in those cities. Prior to the coalition campaign starting in 2014 that region went all the way to Al Taqqadum in Iraq which is only 1 town West (20 miles) of Baghdad.

We are finally with this new administration actively killing the people that have made Syria, not Syria. It's not good enough to establish the border of Iraq/Syria and let them just keep that whole chunk of Syria they own. ISIS is the separatist group in this case not the Kurds. The Kurds just understand that killing ISIS in Raqqa is in their best interest now while they have US support which they lacked and paid for in blood to fight for that green swath up north that is their territory.

Hell, the Turks have been doing that ever since Operation Provide Comfort, post Desert Storm, which later became Northern Watch......as the Kurds were getting little comfort provided to them from the Turks bombing them often there in northern Iraq.

IIAF/IRIAF Tomcats also have kills.

The Russians invade Ukraine prior to the selective division of control of that country.

We and the rest of the international community watched Syria lose control of its government allowing a free area for the growth of ISIS as a Caliphate years before we actually got involved..

Syria has no control over half of their country through their own action, not the invasion of a foreign power. And the US has stated there is no desire by it or the rest of the coalition to see that use of military force turn into a permanent occupation.

If you can't understand the difference I can't help you,
