F-16 Down

Have you guys read "The Magical Stranger"? A son who lost his father in a 1980 Prowler crash attempts to get to know a father he did not know well.

Yeah, saw a couple teaser passages from his book. Looks interesting, well written from what I read. Somehow that story reminds me a lot of a tale told to me when I went through CACO school.......wife of an east coast A-6 RAG IP/IBN (can't remember which), lost her man in a night low level CFIT in WV on a training sortie. Her reaction for years was just to pretend that he was still on cruise, and would be home eventually. In a world where guys just disappear into the ocean or casketless funerals, that kind of thing has to be harder than a normal death I'd imagine. We had CAPT Scott Speicher's son attached to our airwing as an intel O.......I obviously didn't broach the subject, but I can't imagine what that ordeal must have been like for a little kid.
