with both crew reportedly KIA.

RIP.

Including this incident, combat/combat support losses of -15Es have been 5: 1 in Desert Shield during dissimilar air/air practice (CFIT), 2 in Desert Storm (1 AAA, 1 SAM), 1 in OIF (SAM?), and the current loss in OEF (UNK).
 
R.I.P. I'm guessing no one's sure of the cause, yet? Hopefully, it wasn't due to a SAM or some AAA....

KABUL — A U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jet crashed early Saturday in central Afghanistan, killing the two crew members, the U.S. military said.

A statement by the Air Force Central Command said the crash was not due to hostile fire, and a board of officers would be convened to determine the cause. Names of the crew members were not released.

No fighter jets have crashed in Afghanistan in years. Militants are able to shoot down helicopters with rockets, but are not known to have the anti-aircraft weaponry necessary to bring down a high-flying jet.

The U.S. statement did not say where the crash happened. Afghan authorities said the plane went down in the Nawur district of Ghazni province — a peaceful area populated by the ethnic Hazara minority.

Mohammed Qasim Naziri, the deputy district chief, said the crash site was between two villages in a desert surrounded by mountains about 20 miles (30 kilometers) south of the town of Nawur.

He said local people notified police of the crash but by the time authorities reached the site U.S. troops had surrounded the area and barred Afghan authorities from approaching the wreckage.

Where's Hacker at? I believe he's forward deployed per se' but not sure what areas he's operating in away from base.
 
They come in three's......

At Kandahar Airbase in central Afghanistan, a civil-contract Russian-buile Mi-8 helicopter crashed just inside the base perimeter, killing 16 onboard. And less than 12 hours later, a fighter jet taking off from the base also crashed inside the perimeter, both crewmembers ejecting from the aircraft. Preliminary info only on the second incident.

There are no SAMs in AFG. Where the heck would the Talib get them from? The 80's was a different story, we were pouring billions in weapons, but Tehran is too stretched thin after meddling with Iraq. That leaves China and Russia. China? Well, they couldn't care less about it, but if asked I"m sure they would make the weapons, and labeled them from another country while their at it. Russia? Maybe their pissed that we used Afghanistan against them in the 80's and now theyre turning it around on us?

Wouldnt that be the irony of the 21st century.

Sorry, but that is just not correct. There is plenty of evidence that there are both FIM-92s and several models/copies of the SA-7 family of MANPADS.

Where are they coming from? Through both Pakistan and Iran...who knows who the actual physical suppliers are.
 
I've seriously lost sight of why we are still dropping bombs there. Talk about a lost cause if there ever was one. The Taliban can never be defeated. We all know the history of the land. It is unconquerable.

So, because in history there have been many defeated attempts to colonize the area by foreign powers, the United States should completely give up on what was started on 9/11/01?

An interesting thought process.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the taliban lasted all of about forty days before they were defeated. Kabul fell almost 8 years ago. You're no kin to Baghdad Bob are you?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you don't understand how the governmental structure works over there.

Running them out of Islamabad does not mean they've fallen.
