F-15 Story in the news: super bummed pilot flys home on a commercial flight

The USAF has been seriously cracking down on "impromptu airshow displays" for some time now.

Even more than that, it is the borderline religious fervor which the AF views anything bordering on flight discipline. Even things that aren't against the rules or unsafe can mean the end of a career, much less the stuff that actually is against the rules or overtly showboating. It is a bit like rape and sexual harassment accusations in the 80s and 90s -- even the suggestion that someone might be coloring outside the lines is enough to warrant tarring and feathering (Tailhook '91, anyone?).

If this pilot was, indeed, breaking the rules, then I support having the book thrown at him. At the same time, I also know that the AF practices the mantra of "guilty until proven innocent", so I also think that we should avoid stringing up the noose for this pilot until all the facts are actually known and he has his "day in court."

Heck Hacker, even that's no guarantee. As we've both been around long enough to see just how much of a kangaroo court their system can really be when it comes to something that violates the Church of the Air Force.

Steve, It's a quote from Top Gun!
I know! I just loved that line coming from you, and the direction it was heading in my mind wouldn't have been PG-13, thus the smiley. That was NOT a serious warning, just acknowledging the (gasp) gay humor in "I want some butts!", and also our past history in figuring out where the "do not cross" line is located.

It was funny!

Oh man... I know several of the pilots out at JAX from the FLANG. Hope its no one I know/worked with and I hope it isn't a career ender for the guy. Great squadron and they have been very helpful to me in my "outside-aviation" endeavors.

This guy just defend our freedom yeeee hah ... thus he shouldn't be held to military aviator standards or codes of conduct. And should be afford whatever freedom(s) he enjoys, eh?

Protecting freedom doesn't grants someone freedom to break rules and be reckless or destroy personal property.

What exactly are those "military aviator standards"? Codes of conduct? Do you actually know what you're talking about?

I lost count of the amount of assumptions she made about the pilot, first that he was lower than he needed to be 'for any reason'. Second, was she in her office or outside watching the neighborhood? "Playing tricks"? "Thrill Ride"? "Someone is going to have to have a talking to with this pilot"? She already made up her mind without knowing anything.

So no one has any idea what happened, but we're warming up the tar and feathers? That's all I get out of this conversation.
