Anyone know anything about this airplane? Anyone flown one? They look pretty amazing from everything I've been reading.

Interesting plane. I haven't flown one but have read they have some performance deficiencies compared to similar aircraft. Slower than a Meridian but great fuel burn and good range when lightly loaded.
 
Currently the FAA registry shows zero 500's with N registrations. Like others here, I can speak to the aerobatic monoplanes but not the 400 or 500 series.

IIRC, the Extra 500 has only had a FAA Type certificate for a little over a year. I remember seeing ad's in magazines for them a decade ago. Neat airplane, if you've got the coin.

But in reading the type certificate, its not known ice approved nor is it IFR approved at this time
 
Wow splash from the past. I think the other SE TPs blew it out of the water with speed.
 
I've got 0.8 dual received in an Extra 300 and was about to write all about it when I looked up the Extra 500 and saw it was something entirely different.
 
I think the 400 or 500 would make an awesome replacement for the bonanzas and 210s out there. I guess the 500 is quoting 20gph in cruise.
 
There was one on the atlantic ramp in Burbank a few years ago. It was n registered iirc.
 
I remember reading a flying magazine article like a decade ago about the EA-400. I love the teardrop fuselage and the strut-less high wing. I didn't realize they stuck an Allison 250 on one and made the 500! And according to wikipedia, although its cruise speed is slower than the Piper Meridian, it only burns 19 gph vs. 36 gph and has an extra 600 nm in range.
