ExpressJet Baby Removal Update (well, kinda)

At the time, returning to the gate makes people angry. They are spending extra time and they'll takeoff later because of it.

Had they had boarding time plus a 3 hour groundstop followed by 3 hours in the air for a total of 6-7 hours on an RJ next to a screaming child (not a wild exaggeration by any means), I guarantee they'd meet their friends and relatives at the curb of the destination and have to vent about what a horrible experience they just had.

It would have been bad publicity/word-of-mouth either way.

I don't understand your post. It was my understanding that the flight was already delayed more than 7 hours on the ground.

Again, I ask, who ever said the child was screaming? All anyone said was that he was SAYING "Bye, bye plane". And the mother contended and tried over and over to explain to the FA that his routine would be that he'd be asleep in 15 minutes.

So where does the "screaming" come in?

Again, stick to facts not opinions.

Whatever the baby's routine was as claimed by the mom, whatever the delay was prior to that, anything else along those lines, isn't really what I was posting about.

My point was, the media has enjoyed bashing the airlines in the past few weeks for taxi delays that people put on youtube, and here we have a flight attendant removing something that pissed her off and it gets negative press even though it would have been a negative event to leave the kid on the plane and piss of the passengers. It is a lose-lose situation for airlines in the news right now.

And as for it being a routine of the child to be annoying before going to sleep: if a flight attendant on a 747-400 climbed up to the crew rest bunk while everyone else is quietly reading or sleeping on break, and the flight attendant who just came in started saying BYE BYE PLANE very loudly, would the others in there shrug it off and say, nah they are just doing this routine before they nap. Hell no.

That may be a goofy example but it is the same type of decision the flight attendant was forced to make: this kid gets off now, or not at all.

She decided to take the child and mom off. Was it the wrong decision? Obviously some people think so. Others think not (I might if I was sitting next to them trying to sleep). The flight attendant intended to improve the situation and was not intentionally disregarding the child and mom's expectation to get where they paid to go.

As far as contract of carriage goes: in addition to the mom and kid being covered by a contract between them and the airline under their plane ticket, the people sitting around them are covered as well. They have a basic expectation that the cabin will be an orderly place and that no unreasonable behavior from other passengers will make their flight miserable. It's got to be a difficult decision for an F/A to make.

When people are squeezed together inside an aluminum tube for hours on end, there are bound to be some unpleasantries. I don't want to hear a kid scream or cry for hours either. Who does? But unless a kid is ill or in pain, they usually don't cry for more than a few minutes, although it may seem like an eternity, especially to the parents of the child who are usually fully aware that their child is annoying others, and trying their best to settle the child down.

Having said that, what are my rights when I'm seated next to Farting Freddy, who had a deep fried bean burrito last night washed down with a gallon of tequila and is still wearing last night's clothes? When my air space is so invaded that I can see it? When I'm gasping for air and desperately trying to get the oxygen mask to deploy so I can breathe and suck some O2 into my lungs? Oh yeah, and I'm in business class too!

I kid you not, that happened to me recently. The first few farts were funny. I raised my eyebrows and laughed, but like a child, he didn't stop farting. After we landed, I even noticed that people at the baggage carousel were moving away from him. I made sure that I was at the opposite end of the carousel from him, even if it meant retrieving my bag last. Seriously, the dude could fart the Star Spangled Banner and then seque into the Overture of 1812. I used to think it was silly that they were opening oxygen bars in airports, now I understand why!

I like those little people. I'll take their noise anyday over Farting Freddy's fumes!

Nick, I'm not talking about media and the past.

I'm referring to the facts of THIS case. It's the lawyer in me--sorry. The fact is that this plane was delayed for many hours before takeoff--which appears to have finally been around 1 AM.

Again, no one has said that the child was uttering his word loudly or VERY LOUDLY. They just said that he said them.

And if you were trying to sleep while listening to the mandated safety annoucement, some might have an issue with that! :)

With regard to the others around them, those are the ones that have stepped forth to come to her defense.

So we'll see or probably we'll never see.

I don't understand this statement--do you have facts to support this?: "The flight attendant intended to improve the situation and was not intentionally disregarding the child and mom's expectation to get where they paid to go."

OMGawd!!!!....thank you for making me bust my gut tonight! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL :) I owe ya one!

I don't understand this post. Who said the flight was delayed on a taxiway? The flight was delayed for hours in the airport.

Who said anyone claimed they had rights? I never read that anywhere or heard it on any of the telecasts.

Who said the FA made 99% of the plane happy? I saw telecasts of passengers complaining about her. That would negate your 99% claim.

Geez, stick to facts not your preconceived opinions.

AMEN!!! Hallelujah! Finally the most intelligent words yet!!

Type in "Expressjet Baby" at google. This thread, sadly, is going to be with us for a long long time.

Evidently you did not read any of my replies, bunghole.

Sheesh.

I was going to give you crap for calling the guy a bunghole. Good thing I looked at the quote to see that his name is, in fact, bunghole.

:panic:

lol...sharp as a bowling ball! :) :sarcasm:

You can call me Mr bung or you can call me Mr. hole....but you dont have to call me Mr. Bunghole. :)

My read on this thread Michelle is that those were some pretty tongue-in-cheek responses, not to be taken 100% literally. Beating a 19 month old - shock collars - come now -you don't REALLY think they were serious, do you?

Yeah... everybody KNOWS they don't come in that size!

;)
