ExpressJet Airlines Internship Questions???

Personaly, I think that there are other effective ways to network that are paid; for example working ground, line or other operational crews. But that's just my opinion. Maybe I value getting paid for work.
A lot of 121 chiefs (and more importantly HR reps) chatting with the FBO line personnel? Or are you networking with the goal of a 135 gig?

I think you missed the focus of what I was trying to convey. No matter what field of expertise someone is looking to network in, there are means within that profession that you can network while getting paid.

If the goal is to network, then get paid to do it.

If the goal is to gain experience, don't do it for free.

easy to say. But can you offer some meaningful suggestions to our thread starter on paid 121 networking strategies? The ones you mentioned are long shots at best compared to a few months working for free in exchange for an interview (and at XJT a virtually guatenteed class date) as soon as whatever airline he interns at starts hiring again.

First, the original poster has never said what the intentions behind the internship are. It was just assumed that the ultimate goal is for a flight line position. I'm not making that assumption.

What if the goal is to learn the inner workings of how a business is run, does it have to be specifically aviation, or just transportation? As kactus said, this position a lot of paperwork mumbo jumbo. I don't see it as anything other than an unpaid secretary position; so, with all the people who get riled up about pilots flying for free or undercutting - there's probably some secretary who could argue the same thing for this internship. What has the internship offered that it has not taken away from someone else?

If the original poster is looking at the internship for the sake of getting a job on the flight line eventually, I'd say there are many ways to get noticed without doing something for free. Have you ever coveted a job and done something to network your way in? You probably have, I'm just advocating not doing that for free.

I don't personally respect internships and the companies that offer them, but that's just my personal opinion.

So you have no meaningful suggestions for the op to network while getting paid towards a 121 job. Got it.

I never said that, I just don't feel like doing it tonight - it's midnight and I'm tired.

Also, if you read my past post, you would have noticed that the OP never indicated that your assumption is his intention. Having that background would be helpful before making suggestions, considering the OP also just asked for help on what places have good aviation programs. Im just not assuming that the OP is looking at a 121 job, you did.

If you got issues, take it to a PM with me.

my issue is with someone offering bad advice. One can argue about the value of an internship in this market, but to pretend there are paid options out there that even come close to offering the returns from a few months as an intern (then refusing to name even one) is silly.

To me bad advice is giving advice without having all the necessary information. Like I said, I'm going to bed; perhaps the OP will chime in with some additional info so that advice can be given that would be applicable to the situation.

It seems silly to offer advice on how to get a 121 job via an internship to someone whose hours might be well below ATP minimums, to close to none, don't cha think?

Does anybody know who at ExpressJet to call concerning pending internships?
I am following up for a friend and haven't really had the time to track down names and numbers.

Thanks for any info...

Thanks guys, my thing now is housing and is it possible for me to have a small job while I'm doing the internship so that I could have some money in my pocket?
