I need to make $$$ and have a stable position.

In these days of offshoring at the drop of a hat, there ain't no such thing as a stable position.

The only stable job, I think, is in DC. Get elected as a congressman, serve a few years, get a phat retirement and all of the special interest money you want.

Stablilty forever would be great. I understand that this industry is not the most stable. I would like to pick carriers that have a track record of profits, non furloughs and good relationship with employees. That way I can say i did my part when the sh-t hits the fan and they furlough. I dont want to pick an airline that obviously is in trouble. That would be dumb. XJT as profits for the last ?? quarters which is a plus for me!

Well, XJT is a good company, and if you have to work for a regional they're one of the best. But we're all still wondering what's to become of those 69 aircraft, so it's not all flowers and rainbows.

I had a bit of trouble getting them to call me back, too, and this was at the heighth of the hiring phase. I eventually called the hiring department (don't ask where I got the number, I don't remember. One of the websites I think.) and that seemed to get things rolling. May work for you, may not. But there it is.

Put the pipe down, mate. All regionals are profitable because they are guaranteed profits by the very way they operate (fee for departure).

That being said, even the best of regionals can become the worst in a short amount of time, IMO. Comairs' pilots WALKED for 90 days to get their industry-leading contract, and it was shredded in bk court.

Why are you stuck on the regionals? There are other options out there where I wouldn't be concerned with the future of gas prices (read: 135 freight). Flying for a regional isn't really all that fun, anyway, IMO. It's pretty much mindless flying. There are some cool aspects of it, but freight looks like a lot more fun to me.

Sounds like Delta up until the 1990s.

TWA, PAN AM, and Braniff as well!

Colgan furloughed once after 9/11 for two weeks. Then everyone was recalled.

Buffalo, with all due respect, you're looking for something that just does not exist in this industry.

Anything, and I mean anything you do is a calculated risk career-wise.

Do you think the people that were hired by TWA, purchased and then furloughed by American simply chose a weak carrier, or were they casualities of the ebb and flow of the airline industry?

Stable "today" isn't necessarily stable "tomorrow". Take a peek in the thread about Scenic Airlines.

I think your also forgetting that up until about two weeks or so ago there was a good chance that 69 airplanes were going to be gone from XJETS fleet. As far as I know they still need to find flying for those aircraft. If you want stability......I dunno. I'd say fly some freight but even thats rocky with places like Airnet almost getting sold etc...basically, your screwed.

Don't discount us just yet. According to the Director of Ops. VM last week, hiring will not stop in the summer as planned. Hiring will continue into 2007. At least 32 people a month. Even if you don't upgrade before you finish intitial ground school, this is a great company to be at. I'm former Colgan myself. Trust me, it's night and day. I no longer live in fear of the Chief Pilot. You'd be happy here.
