I recently heard that Express Jet lowered their minimums to 800 total and 100 or 200 multi.....is there any truth to this? Thanks for any input.

Try doing a search over at flightinfo.com forums. About a handful of guys over there at XJT pilots. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Good Lord, they cannot be that desperate.

What gives?

well continental did just recall some 240 pilots and i think most if not all were from express jet through the flow back program they have.

There is also a good chance they might be going on strike soon. I have a friend who just started flying the line for them and if they go on strike he gets canned because he's on probation. This might be a good wait and see situation.

Just because they have less time it doesn't mean that they don't go through all the training and checkrides a pilot with more hours does.

Oh yeah. They are just gonna sign papers and take passengers from place to place. Use a little common sense here. Off course they would go through the training the more experienced people go through.

That's true. But 600 TT? That doesn't even meet Part 135 cargo/charater. And they're going to have guys flying 50 seat RJ's?

What's next XTJ? You going to pull a Gulfstream and "hire" pilots and pay them nothing?

Here We Go! Go easy on him FalconCapt. Now Brian, you really ought to choose your words wisely here. While I do not have anywhere near the experience of many here, I don't throw around words like:

For example, I am getting ready for from IR checkride. Now when I get the rating, I will be an Instrument Rated pilot. FalconCapt is also an Instrument Rated pilot. Did we go through similiar training and checkrides for the rating? Yes ! Does he have more experience than me? Fo' Shizzle he does. That's why they are minimums; min's to apply and then there are preferred "hiring" mins.

<edit>Brian, if you weren't replying to FalconCapt, then excuse the reference to him. The message still stands and applies to what he says, Experience counts.</edit>

Exactly. After 9/11 hiring mins. at SWA, F9, FL, JB stayed the same but the preferred mins. shot way up (well common sense would led to this conclusion) because of the fact there were thousands of furlough quality pilots who had thousands of hours in the equipment the company hires you onto.

I'm sure you started somewhere at the bottom too! Everyones gotta build their time somehow someway. Some are more fortunate than others. Not trying to knock your boots, just giving it a different perspective.

Actually, there are a lot of guys out there flying 50 seat RJs with less than 135 minimums. Have you looked at the IFR mins for 135? They're 1200 tt. That means anyone hired at minimums at most regionals is below 135. SA.

Good point, Brian. I don't see how anyone can argue that point. The extra hours are those intangibles.
As long as they passed the same checkrides, etc. I'm cool. I'm worried about that guy that barely passed his way into one of those right or left seats. That guy can be young, old, way above mins, just meets mins, etc.

Does anyone know how aviation used to be before airlines got greedy? All you had to do 30 yrs. ago was say you wanted to be a pilot, and have perfect vision, they'd put you through ground school and you were off.

Pre-9/11 Tab Express, Commut Air, Great Lakes were all hiring with 500TT/50ME. I have a friend who did an internship with a 121 carrier and was hired with 305TT/30Multi.

Oh well.... I guess its however you want to perceive it. As pilots though--all of us looking for our big break into the industry.... none of you ought to be bitching about the minnimums! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/argue.gif
