Express Jet code share changes

Gotta have someone that wants to buy them first
I think a good buyer is ZW. It updates their fleet and makes them more marketable. I used to work at ZW. The 200s they have are going to be a dying breed considering their aircraft age. Pure speculation

Old junky 145 for old junky cr2 really isn't a fleet upgrade.

We took 5 of their 200s and had to stop because they were flown like cheap rental cars and the maintenance needed to get them up to our standard was too expensive

Who would be a good buyer for ExpressJet? What would make a good buyer?
A company thats making money and needs to grow their route structure. ZW only operates R2s and Expressjet has a mixes fleet. Even after they return Deltas aircraft. ZW is making money however they need newer or like new different aircarft typea because soon R2s will be obsolete. A good buyer would be a company that has a sound footing and experience and ZW is a company that has it. Route structure is important. ZW goes as far west as MCI. Building a coast to coast operation would open up more growth. Again all this pure opinion. My opinion.

DS above said that they'd acquired some CRJ-2s from them, and that they were too expensive to upgrade their mechanicals.

Not to mention a TOTALLY DIFFERENT type with different engines! If a carrier upgrades from CRJ-2s to 7s or 9's, they still have the CF-34 engine that the 2s have.

I don't think EV has generated a profit in 8-10 years. As such why would anyone be interested in purchasing them? Perhaps if they owned amazing planes and/or routes but I'm not sure that is the case.

The rumor I heard was United might want to purchase them and run it as their own much like Delta does with Endeavor and American does with PSA/Piedmont etc. That obviously means the end of the AA contract but I'd imagine SkyWest/Envoy/Republic or somebody would just pick it up or something. Just the rumor I heard.

EV isn't in a good spot, but neither was Pinnacle before becoming Endeavor.

This is the only thing that would make sense. I don't see another regional buying a regional from a different regional. Either a Mainline partner scoops them up, like when they were Continental Express, or XJT fades away to obscurity.

Do you see it as a trend where the mainlines own the regionals outright vs. contracting with them?

Just my opinion here, but UA currently has a partial stake in Commutair, and they are having trouble. I could see UA purchasing what's left of XJT and merging the two. I would assume that if that were to happen Skywest would probably keep the "lucrative" AA contracts.

This is all pure speculation and my opinion only of course, and I don't claim to be some business genius.

I think with the shortage of pilots, the only regionals around in a few years will be the ones that are owned by a major airline, and Skywest will probably be around too.

Again, just the opinion of a fairly new dispatcher who does not claim to know everything. It will be interesting to see what happens over the next few years.

UA seems to be just getting their feet wet in the wholly-owned subsidiary game, as they just started their regional ground-handling division UGE a couple years ago. Will be very interesting if they try to do what Delta did with 9E: turn a dying airline into a prominent wholly-owned regional carrier.

It'll be interesting to see what'll happen with independents like my outfit, G7 or our sister airline, AX...

AA wholly owns regional airlines too; they own Envoy, PSA, and Piedmont. Since Delta also owns a regional, I can't see United sitting on the sidelines for long...
