Expired IRA knowledge test retake authorization

I looked through the FAA documents online but couldn't get a straight answer. If I remember correctly if a knowledge test expires before taking the check ride you can retest with the original "passing" test report without getting a new endorsement.

Is the above correct or am I crossing my wires?

Too tired to look up any regs but I encountered this situation before and my student took his passing test and previous logbook endorsement into the testing center and took the test again, I never signed the logbook.

Give a call to the test center to see what they say. In my opinion, an expired test result even it passes 70, is a useless paper. I will spend another 2 minutes to give the student another endorsement. I don't wanna sweat in the midnight.
