Exemption 3585

my class date is in 2 weeks and I'm trying to wrap my head around the exemption 3585... Any help/suggestions?

I'm with the others....

Even though I worried about it equally as much as you, they do not expect you to show up and take a test on the spot about this. They will teach it to you for the test as well as everything else you need to know. TRY not to be nervous and just take notes, listen, and study with as many people from your class as you can. It really isn't that bad. Good Luck.

On a side note, in 3 years, I have only been dispatched with 3585 once and we are not CATII so there you go.

Yea i'm really not too worried, I've just memorized the entire pre-training study packet and had nothing else to study for class so figured i'd learn 3585

Stick to the packet. Learn the limitations, and whatever else the gave you inside and out, front and back, side to side, top to bottom, etc. You'll be busy enough once class gets into gear.

On a personal note, I think the "pre-training" packets are ghetto. I did two weeks of indoc, two weeks of systems like everyone else in the world and they taught me all I needed to know. Does it shorten it that much?

I'm not sure but at least it makes me feel like I'm being productive! Cant hurt.

Yeah, it does a great job explaining the extremely confusing topic. I have it in my flight bag... I really need an electronic copy of it since I've had more then 3 or 4 people ask for it.

Hey Jace the Ace did you ever get a chance to get that?

I don't think that there is anything to get too wrapped around the axle about 3585. As a couple of folks pointed out, it occasionally came up going into some of our old out-station uncontrolled fields; BLF, BKW, RKD, AUG, BHB come to mind. I was based in BKW and HYA. Used 3585 less 5 times in almost 4 years. I think once in the year I was in HYA when we were late out of LGA and HYA and ACK were closed.
Keep in mind there is a reason we carry an FOM...VERY, VERY few things do you need to memorize out of that book, but you DO need to know where to find the information if you need to question a release. The old "Ch. 7" (Winter OPS) was an important section to have a good working knowledge of, but know we have really good in-flight guide that contains all
that and more. So-called, "fingertip" knowledge as one of our old managers called it.
