Strange, I’ve never seen even one in mine.

It’s coming with a generational shift in the self attention “influencer is a job” mindset.

We’re having to repeatedly flog younger “look at me!” Types in the military as they have come into the ranks. Like hey numbskull, everything you just did is not only specifically illegal per reg, what you’re filming and posting could be argued as release of compartmentalized information. Knock it the F off if you want to keep doing this job.

Since you guys are historically down stream from entry into the aviation world it’s only a matter of time.

I figure it’s like this. Our system worked because he wasn’t anywhere near what we were looking for and he got shown the door.

The carrier that hired him saw something else.

Not my clown, not my rodeo.

Apparently our model of “that’s way too much” worked and the other carrier’s model of “Well, we can hammer out the kinks”…. Worked.

It’s not rocket science or anything to feel any way about. I wouldn’t want to deal with a guy with that record nor do I have to. The other airline felt differently, I fail to see how "the system sucks" or why I should care as they saw exactly what the other airline saw and said, "Ehh, ok".

That's their problem now. That candidate isn't thinking about me over a cup of coffee this morning.

And for the record I’m a believer in redemption for those that put in the time and hard work to overcome mistakes or poor decisions of youth. The world, in my opinion is better with less homogeneous drones and more people with real stories of life and consequences.

Yeah, no thanks. It’s people like this that end up trying BS like joining the 410 club annd end up putting a jet into houses.

Indiscretions of youth? This ain’t a teenager on some drunk rowdy spring break. This is an ATP-certificated Captain at his last trip at a major 135 operator.


These people ought to never be allowed to touch a jet again. Sorry? Not sorry. Not after Pinnacle 410 club, Colgan, and Atlas. In the industry, we need to stop fearing - and actively encourage and enforce - the “you just ain’t cut for this gig” and force the walk…

I happened to be in upgrade class with the first officer from that airnet incident. At Airnet, dude was a relatively new FO in a culture of intentional noncompliance when it came to retirement flights. That certainly wasn’t the only Leer rolled at Airnet - it was the first that screwed it up to the point of having to fess up. The culture of non-compliance was pervasive much like how at Legacy Airlines it might be super common to let guests up on the flight deck on charter flights. New FOs are told everyone does it and they go along with it… until a story hits the news and then suddenly everyone is “shocked” this behavior occurred.

I’m in no way condoning bad behavior like this… But this is a rational explanation why newer people might go along with bad decisions.

The former airnet pilot who was in my upgrade class was extraordinarily serious, professional, and humble. He freely discussed his mistakes from that day well over a decade ago. This guy has slogged it out for well over a decade trying to repair a terrible reputation. After lots of hard work and tons of crap jobs, he overcame his past and made it to a legacy. I wonder if I made such a public error in my youth if I would have the fortitude to keep trying?

After everything this pilot has been through I’m sure the hiring department saw a pilot with drive, a pilot who bounced back from a big mistake, and a pilot who will demand SOP compliance. They made a good choice and I’m positive this pilot is going to be one of the safest Captains we have.

I was reminiscing with another Starchecker the other day and I came to realize that it is now 19 years since I started flying there.

Now when I tell people I fly with my background these youngsters shoot back with how they have to google how to even write a check.

They’ll make a cockpit tik tok video on what a check is, after they make one on getting dressed in an airline pilot uniform and before the one on them adjusting the A320 seat or putting up their iPad in the cockpit
 
Funny how they never do a tiktok in a 34 year old A320 with the manual seats where they try to do that and end up sitting on the floor a millisecond later. *KATHUNK* "Oops, wrong lever."

I had to get an actual clearance over the radio the other night (AFW doesn't have PDC/CPDLC).

I didn't film it.

Am I actually a pilot?

If no one saw you do it on video, you are, in fact, NOT A PILOT.
 
I had to get mine via voice in DFW the other day. For some reason I can never logon, or get PDC there.

It was a terrible experience.
I had to do it out of BOS one time because they gave us a reroute, which was switching one VOR in our route to the fix with the same name that was in the same spot, and for some reason it messed up their ability to send our CPDLC.

It's ok.

My employer doesn't even have hats. And we already have our own influencer. And since I don't feel the need to walk around on camera without a shirt on, there ain't room for two of us.
 
I think the term is misused in aviation. They’re not influencers as much as they’re wannabe celebrities.

I’ve never sat through a video and wanted to make a purchase or change brand affinities. Usually it’s “You’ve filmed yourself doing something completely ordinary for the love of a bunch of Russian response bots AND putting your career in jeopardy”
