EWR radios and radar fail again

Administration; ruins every last thing about working for the federal government in the space of a month.

Administration; When no one wants to work for said administration.

Also @Autothrust Blue …this is the kind of thing I’m talking about. If the safety agency isn’t doing safety agency things, WTF am I bugging my congress critters to salvage their budgets for?
I mean, I'm good with the regulator standing up to the industry. They should be, the emerging assumption of irregularity notwithstanding.

This is because low ceilings means we can’t use 29/11 so we’re up and down one runway due to construction on 22R/4L. To be able to get departures out it means tower needs 6 miles at the threshold. To get 6 miles at the threshold I need to have 7-8 miles between guys on final. This means we run out of airspace quickly so the hourly rate is dropped dramatically. This isn’t even a staffing thing. It’s not like United and others haven’t known about the runway closure for the last two years minimum and could have planned accordingly.

As much as I’d love to blame everything on Trump, this move happened under Biden

IIRC you have been warning us about this for about 10 years or so. Lack of staffing, lack of controllers who understand how that sector works or who can function in that environment etc.

The cracks started showing when corporate aircraft were sent almost to Ohio to get from West Palm Beach to TEB. That was after I got out of the 91/135 game. 7-8 years ago.

It's weird people are surprised by this at all. But I seem to have a better memory than most and that's pretty sad.

Forgive me if this has been brought up before, but if things are really as bad as it seems, why not activate military personnel to supplement ATC?

Pretty sure you can’t just drop some dude whose been working a couple of F16s somewhere in the middle of the desert southwest into some of the busiest and most complex airspace on the planet and have it go well.

Plus other hurdles

A friend of mine was operating a MCO-EWR leg a few days ago. A crazy long EDCT so the company said ‘eff it and sent them to JFK and got buses to transport them to EWR.

I had the honor and privilege of operating one of those extra segments for the return, so it's being done in both directions.
