So this popped into my social media feed and I have spent a bit of my morning analyzing this. Appears legit to me (but who knows), and purpose is not to get a poll on its authenticity. I have established this is EWR for sure and it being the turnpike I believe s/he is landing on Rwy 29 (6800 ft long based on a quick web search)

Not a NY/NJ area resident and familiarity with EWR ops is very limited. But from experience dispatching 777s, anything less than 8000 ft was a hard no (rare exceptions approved from above). Fact that its super low points to maybe a special circumstance (repo, mx ferry, super light, rwy closure…). Thoughts? particularly from those familiar with EWR/UA or similar ops?

Landed 29 several times in the A300 and MD11. First time ever was in the A300 at night shooting the ILS to 4R circle to land 29. Oh, and with a fed on the jumpseat…no pressure!🫣

If winds are legit and the numbers look good, shrug. Seen FedEx DC10s and MD11s planted on 29 a couple times.

Uncomfortable with it? Exercise authority and pull Operational Control and say no. Run the numbers for 4R or 22L or I-95 and come up with a more comfortable performance. Just be sure to use the Cars-Trucks-Buses lane since you're over 22,500 GVW.

If EWR is insisting on landing 29 and you/the pilot says no, I would be running numbers for PHL. Much higher chance of that happening then landing contraflow in EWR.

I’ve seen plenty of heavies land on 22L when they are advertising 29. And that was even with 22R closed. If you need it for performance, @NovemberEcho will coordinate it with the tower.

I've also seen plenty of flights held to diversion on 10 and CLR days with slight arrival demand spikes at EWR. Maybe it's just being burned in the past, but there are some airports I just don't trust with anything unusual.

We’d been landing 29 a lot because of the 22R closure so using 22L for departures but anyone who needed 22L was given it no questions asked. Probsbly 75% of the heavies, including foreign carriers, took 29 if the winds were from anywhere but the east. In that video too keep in mind it’s a wide angle lens so makes it look lower than it is, although you do cross the turnpike pretty low.

Even 777/87 and A330/350 landed on that runway during the closure so it can be done. But if you feel it isnt safe tell atc NO and run numbers for the longer runway.
