Everybody's got a side job...

But hey...they are somehow safer than pilots and can still bypass security. I bet we still won't see rampers in the TSA lines...stupid

No kidding! Rampers and gate agents both have access to everything inside and out of every aircraft, and they have access to them when no one is around. For realz?
 
If you only knew how many corrupt baggage and package handlers there are, you would probably never ship anything ever again. When I worked FedEx there were a lot of iffy stories of packages going to the wrong places to the wrong people. My favorite story was a 50 cal sniper rifle shipped through UPS to a private household. Must have been the wrong one as they reported it, police took it, FBI investigated. No traces through the UPS system, but delivered by UPS and the driver and personnel at the facility confirmed sorting and delivering it.

Lots and lots of other stories of interested parties getting interesting packages to the wrong countries.

Hell no...I was a ramper. I could have walked right through the door with an AK-47 and took out the entire ramp if I wanted to. It's unfortunate but true.

Not well. Common knowledge that some are illegal immigrants that may be working 2 or 3 jobs to provide for a family. Fake histories do get through and it is more unfortunate for those that have to obtain jobs that way. Working the ramp is a tough and typically thankless job.
 
Wow, TSA and DHS is even more of a joke than I thought it was!! Now they're watching this thread.:smoke:
 
Outside of the drug trade... I have a regional buddy that's been with his company for about 5 years now and its more financially viable for him to bid a schedule for as few days as possible and pour concrete his days off...

Which is why I still lean more towards 121 airline flying. I have 2 very risky business ideas that could make a metric poo ton of money(100s of thousands/year) if a bit of time was devoted to them. I am, however, not interested in taking the risk of pursuing these ideas full time as my sole means of income.
 
When I worked for Alaska Airlines as a ramper in 1999 they conducted back ground investigations on us. But once that was complete you could pretty much walk anywhere on the airport you wanted, as long as you had your id no one questioned you. I could also see the ease of turning someone to the "dark side". I work for 10 bucks an hour slinging bags ...you're going to pay me how much? All I have to do is that? Sure!

Background investigations are a joke really, including the FBI ones. I checked with every agency for discrepancies and my MIP isn't on anything, even the county where it happened. Now, after talking to an attorney, only certain offenses are sent to the state repository and only serious things go to the federal level(FCIC)(pretty much all misdemeanors and a lot of felonies will never be found on a background check). Otherwise they go straight to a file cabinet where no one will ever look at them or reference them ever again.
 
When I ramped in PHX I had to be screened (and still do), but, there were ways if you, say, wanted to bring your own drinks for lunch or that yogurt to snack on...
