Sounds like a winner, killbilly. I should have mentioned earlier that one of the best tools in my CFI toolkit (best I recall) was appropriate praise. It's easy to focus on the one or two things the guy is doing wrong, but it's important to remind them of all the things they're doing right, lest they get clamp-jawed and tunnel-visioned. I had a CFI at one point who was no doubt a great pilot and a very nice guy, but once he got in the cockpit it was just constant niggling, mostly over non-issues. We uhm, did not mesh well.
