Yeah, I think I married the only good looking girl from Tupelo with a brain that doesn't care what my gross income is. There's some hotties around here, but most go to Ole Miss in Oxford, MS, which means they look at your car and your checking account balance before they talk to you......

Okay, my presentation was basically cancelled last Thursday. The presenters before me went a little over their time limit and I got moved over to this week. So that means I have more time to obsess over this ETOPS/LROPS issue. Airbus and Boeing have really been at it!
I read the pdf from the Airbus site, and then I found a similar publication from Boeing. Kell, I have yet to read over ALL of the links you referred me to - I'm working on it!
Here is the Boeing publication:

In that publication there are talks of proposals to change §121.161, and to create FAR §121.7, which seems to be non-existant at this point unless I'm missing something.
If you look through the Boeing publication, there is a table of proposed ARAC rule making, citing §121.161 and others possibly pertaining to ETOPS/LROPS.
Is there any specific mention of ETOPS or LROPS in the FARs? I'm looking and still not finding anything. I want to see how far this stuff has gotten, because Airbus is really pushing their "LROPS technology" to sell the A340-500 and A380 models - and all the real active information seems to come from late 2002 - 2003.

I'm guessing it all means that Airbus doesn't have as strong of an argument as they once thought.
Although the way I see it, long range ops will only become more commonplace as point-to-point service becomes the norm for connecting very distant destinations. With that in mind, the arguments/developments concerning LROPS/ETOPS are probably still going on. I just wish I knew more about the current developments instead of just running into all this hype from 2002-2003.
