ERAU - Attend Extended Campus or Online?

Hello all,

I am starting my BS with ERAU Distance Learning real soon and wanted to ask those who are currently in the program if you do most of your classes online or do you attend the one night a week extended campus? Any pros and cons on either would be highly appreciated.

Thanks!

I do all of my stuff on-line and use the local campus as a proctor if/when I need them. The classes they offer at the campus aren't the ones I need. I'm down to one or two electives, and Air Traffic Management or Commuter Aviation aren't very popular subjects there like College Algebra and Marketing I. :)

GOFLY....I did my degree through ERAU and took regular classes and did online work through the Extended Campus. There are benefits to both...for me, some courses were best served by sitting in a classroom environment. While I was deploying frequently, it was easier to do the classes online. This allowed me to continue my course work with minimal interruption. You'll have to do what is best for you....if you have good study habits then you can't beat the online classes. You can do them from the comfort of your own home :-)

im doing the extended campus. I love it. classes are at night so im free in the mornings to fly. the teachers are very nice and work with you. ive also taken some classes online. those arent bad. but for me, i wouldnt be able to do all of my classes online, i need some classroom interaction. if you have any questions, let me know

I appreciate the replies...

I assume the online classes go on your own pace, it that's the case, can you finish a class much sooner than the regular class? I mean, is it possible to complete an online course in a month?

If the instructor has the exams and everything up, yes. I've done it. You can work as far ahead as you want with most of the classes. The only thing that's held me back from finishing WAY early in most is that the instructor doesn't make the mid term and final available until a week or two they are supposed to be taken. If you're taking a proctored exam, then you might not be able to since they are only sent out when they are supposed to be taken (I think).

I did the majority of my classes at the Extended Campus. I found that I was too much of a procrastinator when working through the online classes. I also really appreciated the interaction in the classroom. You obviously don't get too many networking opportunities in online classes.

After talking to a current student who has done both online and extended campus, all my questions were pretty much answered...

Again, thanks for the replies...

I have been taking classes online for just over a year. Like Kell mentioned it doenst do much good to get to far ahead because the mid term and final arent available until certain weeks....I do all my stuff online. I have about a year left. I have heard the extended campus can be easier due to an actual instructor available to discuss problems face to face but I just dont have time to sit in class with family and such. I enjoy the flexibilty of online classes.

Hey goflyhelo... I haven't seen you over in the helo forum... what's up with your screen name?

I'm pretty much new to JC so I have not had a chance to post anything yet on the helo side but I will...

FYI...I fly the Bell JetRanger 206BIII for SoCal Helicopters...

I originally started out at Prescott and moved to the extended campus so I could graduate faster with the same degree. Compared to the main campus, the extended classes are a cake walk. The downside, at least for me... is that I'm stuck in a class with all the people working at Boeing..... let me rephrase that... I am 23... they are 53... So the chance of having a "college experience" is pretty much blown out the door. Now, if you don't mind talking non stop about the boeing unions and getting hit on by older ladies... or if you fit into the "older" age range... the extended campus is a sweet place to be.

On the upside... most students will finish their degree MUCH faster at the extended campus.

Hey Swim,

Does Boeing pay for your tuition? What degree are you pursuing? Thanks for the input!

;)
