Envoy MIA base to close

I had a HR and Tech interview with an Envoy recruiter who came to my school (we have a pipeline instructor program with them) on Thursday. One of my main questions was about thee future of Envoy. He really didn't have a good answer other than that they are waiting to see if any of the E-170s would be assigned to Envoy.

Sorry to hear this guys. Just went through the same announcement with my own base in IAD a few months ago. People who say commuting is a choice have never lived in base and been given the option of Atlanta or Detroit to move to. I'll take my jumpseat thank you.

Best of luck to all you guys.

Well I guess this just confirms my worries about Envoy and getting a job there in some capacity.

Sorry to all that this affects =/

With all due respect, why would you even try? You see what's happening. If there's any loyalty you may have to the company, that's understandable that you would really want to work there. However, I would think twice, maybe a third and a forth time before taking a job there.

Sorry, I just realized my post makes it seem like I got a job there. I applied to a job there a few weeks ago, haven't accepted any yet. That's what I was getting at but totally failed to do. Exactly how you said about thinking twice if not more of getting a job there is what I meant lol. My bad! Although the place where I applied at is far from MIA, it still seems like Envoy in general is on its way out the door.

Are you a dispatcher? Or an air traffic controller? Or an above/below wing agent? All? None?

The MIA pilot base closing shouldn't have any near-term bearing upon a station in Ohio.

Actually, reading between the lines, looks like the above/below wing station agents might see some growth in MIA. The problem for Envoy pilots is it's going to be planes flown by another airline with the ground service done by Envoy.

A couple years ago, I had been offered a CFI job with the flow number to Envoy when I reached 1500 hours. At the time, I thought it was great and couldn't understand why everyone wasn't jumping on it. Ultimately, I decided that the school was not for me, and I went elsewhere. After some research into the industry, and more information about the companies, I was glad that I did not accept this. Envoy didn't look too bad at the time, but it certainly looks like it is slowly dying now.

3 years at this place, I can't hold a line, and now my base is closing, making me a commuter, again. What a waste of time this has been.

  • I just got a call and they want me to come in for an interview for CSA but I'm not really sure what to think. I would be taking a paycut but the flight benefits kinda make up for that for me.

Problem is that I am fearful of the direction of the company. It seems like they are on their way out almost. Anyone know more on this. It wouldn't be a job for life, just a starter. Job is at CAK

If it's a starter, based where you want, and there's no other comparable job at this exact moment, and no training contract, I'd say it's a no brainer.

I am a total idiot. It wasn't Envoy, it was Piedmont Airlines that called me for an interview. They said US Airways Express on the phone and for some reason I was thinking Envoy (I applied to them as well at a diff airport awhile back). He called while I was driving, so it was hard to talk.

Anyhow... so how is Piedmont? I feel dumb right now lol.

In your defense, his fault for calling themselves USExpress

Writing is on the wall man, bail! PSA, Mesa, Compass, all would put you in a good position. The commuters are a zero sum game.

Making lateral moves is VERY risky and is never advised. It's not like he works for Silver or Great Lakes. Making a lateral move out of those places is a no brainer. Anywhere else is probably not a good idea. The Regional industry is very cyclical and today's hot Regional is tomorrow's cautionary tale...and vice versa.

Along that train of thought: There is no "writing on the wall" for Envoy...the implication being we are being shut down. The worse that will happen to Envoy is happening right now. Losing bases and stagnation. NY will probably close soon leaving us with ORD and DFW. We are up for new contract negotiations in 2016 meaning we start talks in about a year. At that point I fully expect the remaining 20 E-175s to be put on the table along with MAYBE the 90 options.

Those of us already here will be the ones who suffer the most in terms of stagnation and the loss of pay/QOL that comes from stagnating. New hires who arrive next year will have missed most of that and will have lost nothing. And the Regional wheel will spin again and just like that Envoy will be the go-to Regional for the next few years before it all repeats. And around and around we go. But making lateral moves is risky...and I would never in good conscience advise anybody of it....except for pilots currently at Silver, Great Lakes, and MAYBE Republic.

I worry that envoy is actually getting more expensive, relatively speaking, since we have a group of senior pilots who won't be leaving. When we shrink, we aren't losing the super senior as much as the junior guys, making us even more top heavy. Is eagle ever going to be competitive with 400 or so lifers?

3 bases closures, another looming, all 135s gone, 140s are on there way out, along with the crjs. No replacements yet, and people are jumping ship left and right.

We have about 2500 pilots, I am around 2300 seniority. It's amazing to look at a seniority list from Jan 2012. We had 3200 pilots, and I was about 3100.

Piedmont may be the flavor of the month now that they will be getting new E-Jets and Flowthru to mainline.

Lateral moves can very much pay off. WHY on earth would you sit, stagnant and DELAY your career.
