This news hit me hard after just being offered a cjo and management telling me of a bright future no more than three weeks ago....

Well of course they are going to lie to get warm bodies in seats... they don't care about you, or your future. All they care about is getting people in to help in the interim, then furlough you when they no longer require your services.

Anyone who has been following the situation at Envoy for the past 1+ years, should know there is no bright future. The pilots are content with holding the line, and letting the place collapse. Most of the senior guys are either going to flow to AA or retire, and all the junior guys are bailing to other regional's. They are also unable to hire pilots, nobody with half a brain is going to go fly there. It's over.

It doesn't matter, if your offered a job you should take it but find a month to month lease. Worse comes to worse and you get furloughed at least you'll be able to list some experience, and you'll keep your flight benefits for six months.

If you're local to DFW, then it wouldn't be a bad idea to maybe get a few months experience. However, I wouldn't move halfway across the country.

Announced today that ExpressJet will be getting 15 of Envoys' 145s to operate as American Eagle. You know its bad when planes are shifted from one dying airline to another dying airline.

Eh maybe your right, if anything I would judge this on a case to case basis, everyone's circumstances are different. Although I stand by my point, if your looking for your first job and you're offered a spot at envoy you should seriously consider taking it.

Envoy will be fine. It's just on the down cycle. It took Comair a decade to fold after their pilot strike. Someone has to fly those routes and American is better off with Envoy than without. You need several regionals under your umbrella to whip-saw them against each other so costs remain low.

And where is Comair now? I wouldn't touch Envoy with a 39 foot pole. American has said they will shut down Envoy, and since they are farming out the jungle jet flying, it's only a matter of time. They are just rearranging deck chairs on the titanic.

The powers that be made no effort to hide the fact that if the pilots turned down the offer they wore going to melt Envoy down. The way things work over there now almost everyone who isn't a complete greenhorn will flow into AA anyway so I guess they figured they had little to lose by taking a stand and forcing management to a decision. American is going to consolidate their regional flying and that is why Envoy is going down by the head. The question isn't if but when. I would definitely be working on a plan B immediately if you get on with Envoy and treat it as a TDY.

It took Comair a decade to die, so for the purposes of gaining experience, ten years isn't a bad deal. XJT was in similar circumstances with CO at one time. Pinnacle and Mesaba the same with NW. It's hardly a surefire indication of an airline's death.

I had not heard of AMR's intentions of liquidating Envoy. If true, it's sad to see it go.

ENY won't last 10 years....I honestly don't think it will last 1. Check the pilot threads on this too. It's not good for the EGF/ENY peeps as it was a good shop to work for.

Interesting take...

Instead of shutting it down, polish it up and put it on the auction block?

They are done... it was said awhile back by AAG management, that when Envoy shrinks to under 70 airplanes, it is no longer financially viable to continue and run flight ops. So... when the 700;s are gone, the 140's are parked, and the 145's are given out to XJT, PDT, TSA...it leaves them with 68 frames. They will remain a ground handling company only.
