Entry Level Headset

http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/avpages/skycomIIANR.php

This is the Lightspeed QFRCC model, with a different sticker on it. $232 is a pretty good deal for a cheap ANR set. Less than the DavidCrap and quieter.

Believe it or not, a headset doesn't have to be green (just like a plane doesn't have to have a wing over your head) to work well, contrary to the belief of many others that will post here.

If its going to take you a while to save up for a good ANR set, get a cheap passive set and wear earplugs. The combination will protect your hearing as well as ANR, but may be uncomforatable and inconvienient. But it should do for the mean time while saving up.

I "third" what Kellwolf and ESF said regarding a used DC on Ebay. Learn from my mistakes. My story is that I originally bought an inexpensive ANR $360

which I thought would be fairly reliable. I was wrong and had to send it in several times and rarely was without problems. The last straw came when it was at the shop for over 2 weeks and I got fed up with not having a headset and went and purchased what I though should be a backup DC 10-13.4 $260 (which I could have found on Ebay for $220 hind sight is 20/20...

) Well my "backup" ended up being my main headset simply because they worked. Eventually I decided to throw both of them on Ebay and buy one good headset DC 10-13x, which was one of the best decisions I have made in awhile I am still very happy. If I were in your shoes I would try on a set of DC 13.4's and if they are comfortable buy a set on Ebay for $220 then when you want to upgrade sell them on Ebay for $220 or so and buy another set. Just my .02

Good advice. My main set is the H10-13X with a set of H10-13.4 as a backup (and for pax's use). Both are great headsets that stand up to daily use very well.

I threw away every other brand I've owned.

You must use windoze as an OS, right?

"Everyone" uses it, it just has to be better. There is nothing better. No, there really is no such thing as adware, or virii. Rinse. Repeat.

Resistance is futile. You must wear a puke green clamping device to be a real pilot. Give in.

I second the H10-13X. Best investment I've ever made. My backup is a set of AvComms I've had for two years. They're not the best passives on the market, but they were cheap.

Sure I wear DCs, but I'm puttin Linux on the laptop.

You will probably notice a pattern in that most pilots that use and recommend the D-C's upgraded from a different brand. Probably a reason for that other than "herd mentality", don't you think?

No, you don't need to use the mean greens to be a "real pilot". There are some other good quality headsets out there as well. I for one, though, have been using the Clark's for over ten years and I'm sold on their noise reduction capabilities, quality of construction and customer service. All three good reasons to recommend them, I'd say.

Besides, that green is so 50's retro it's almost cool again, eh hombre?

DC's wont do you wrong.

My main set is a peltor ANR.

However my pax headsets are a DC10-80, and a 10-40. when upgraded to gel ear seals DC makes the best passive headset out there.

BTW the 10-80 can be had on ebay for around 100 bucks and it is absolutely bulletproof, just a tad on the heavy side.

Just my 2 cents worth, but I use Lightspeed 15 XLc. A little costly, but the ANR is well worth it. They are very comfortable and not extremely heavy.

What the heck has he done to those? First off, my set came with gel earseals in the first place. Looks like he's swapped those for foam ones. Second, the head pad on mine has a lot more cushioning. Looks like he's taken that off, too. At least it's the newer 9V version with the "automatic off" feature (although the pic of the battery compartment looks like the AA version). Oh, and looks like he's lost the mic cover, too.

The earpads look like the Oregon Aero upgrades. And that battery pack is most definitely NOT the 9V one, but the 6x AA one.
