Endeavor bases-commuting from ATL-your comments please.

I'm considering a position with Endeavor. I must commute from ATL. Here are some of my thoughts:

LGA: even though it's mostly unpopular, might actually be good for me because: (1) Having grown up in the NYC area I am accustomed to life there. (2) Multiple family crash pad opportunities, including my sister's apartment in Brooklyn, which is usually a 30 minute drive to LGA, 45 to JFK. (2) There are typically 28 weekday non-stop flights from ATL to LGA, 17 of which are on Delta. However, usual EWR/LGA/JFK delays can be a bitch. Scheduled block time around 2:10

DTW: Never been there. I don't know anything about Detroit area. I'd have to spend crashpad/hotel money. What about general commutability to DTW? 15 flights, 11 on Delta. Shortest scheduled block time of the three at around 2:00

MSP: Never been there except for the interview. I know nothing of the area. Longest scheduled block time of the three at about 2:40.

Your thoughts and advice please.

I'm considering Endeavor also, but as far as commuting it's almost like flipping a coin. I work on the ground for Delta right now so I look at the loads when I can and commuting from hub to hub seems to be a big pain in the a** particularly between ATL-MSP and ATL-DTW, you'd be on the list with a lot of mainline guys. You may be better off going to one one of the new york metros. More flights to several airports just in case one flight is full.

Good luck going ATL - DTW. I'm DTW based, born and raised, and I've seen the loads between these 2 airports, back and forth. Lets just say typically oversold.

Keep in mind that on ATL-DTW and ATL-NYC (LGA/JFK,) you are going to be commuting BEHIND every single mainline employee, even ones who are hired after you. I commute to NYC and even with 15 years at Mainline, still have to set an alarm to try and book a jumpseat as soon as the window opens, just to make sure I can cover the commute.

Is it doable? Yes, it is. Is it stressful? You bet! Those commutes are not for the faint of heart!

"Commuting to anywhere out of ATL is hell"... Multiple friends of mine who commute out of ATL.

Not sure if you have considered it, but you could drive to TYS, a PSA domicile. And you wouldn't have to sit reserve there once your out of training. Upgrade in about 6 to 8 months if you have the 121 SIC and about 18 to 24 months if you dont. CA pay in a year or two trumps bonus money and sitting as an FO for a handful of years (if you ask me).

I would heavily, HEAVILY, not suggest ATL/MEM-DTW. Whenever I've flown those legs, there were knife fights. But not as bad as people trying to do a FL-ATL/DTW commute.

As others have said DTW will be next to impossible. Most guys that I've flown with from ATL were ecstatic when LGA opened. They're mostly based in LGA/JFK.

PM me if you have any questions about Endeavor. Good luck!

Go for the free crashpad....at least you'll be able to take cost out of the equation when deciding whether to leave the night before or not....

Most of the endeavor guys that were Atl based are now LGA based. From the ones I talk to it's not a bad commute. Now Dtw was a nightmare from what I was told... With movement at DL it seems many who were doing the hub-hub have been able to get based back home.

I'd go with LGA....At the end of the day if you can get out of ATL to some other city, you know there will be multiple flights to LGA/JFK/EWR/HPN.

Is there a way to "see" the loads on an average flight? I'm curious how many folks are commuting and/or paying customers headed outta BNA and MEM.

I commute out of BNA to DTW. Changed to DTW from ATL. Even though ATL is closer it is not a very good commute. BNA-DTW has not been bad so far.

To the OP, most ATL commutes seem to be crowded these days. I just took several DAL main line pilots and FA's to BUF from DTW so they could get to ATL. The DTW-ATL flights were full.

If you have crash pads in the LGA area I would go with that as it would save you money.

When I flew MSP-ATL last month for interview prep I ended up buying a confirmed for less ticket (which cost more than the prep itself) after missing 3 jumpseats. I can't imagine doing that commute week after week.
