This might be an INCREDIBLY ridiculous question, but does Emirates hire female pilots? I apologize if my knowledge surrounding the Middle East is outdated - I just recall it being a very conservative culture. Thanks!

Okay, serious question here, and don't take this as an attack, again, hello serious question. Everyone get that?

With 237 hours, Emirates won't even hire you to clean their lavs, besides don't you have a job already with Aviacsa, flying 737 200,300's?

Kinda confused here!

It is not a ridiculous question. Yes, Emirates hires female pilots.

67K a year, housing and transportation provided. Dang.

With the flying pay included it is closer to $75,000 before bonus and overtime. Bonus is typically 4 weeks basic pay or around $5000. Another $8000 is Emirates contribution to the Provident Fund. Remember the first $82,400 of foreign earned income is tax free. Effectively you pay almost $0 in taxes at this income level while working overseas. All this combined makes the job worth well over $100K/year equivalent, and that's just first year :).

Well, with that brand of thinking I guess I should ask pilots from my top three airline choice (Delta, Continental and United) what their pay will be in 5-7 yrs. as well!

Looks like he is planning ahead to me. It's good to have goals. As you recently said in another thread, " ......cut the kid some slack, he is young and excited about beign a pilot."

For what it's worth, Emirate's plans on hiring 40 pilots per month ver the next year. Starting in August 2008 they will be taking delivery of 2 new widebody aircraft per month well into the next decade. It's an exciting place to be. Look for more orders coming out of the Dubai airshow in November.

Typhoon......what is living in Dubai like? Do you enjoy living there? Have you ever felt threatened (or feared your safety) since you're a foreigner? Are you confined to a compound or is it safe to travel? Kinda curious, since thanks to our current President, more and more people around the world hate Americans every day. Forgive my ignorance; but I don't know much about living in Dubai.....hopefully you can shed some light on the matter. And, I do realize there is a bunch of this stuff posted on the Emirates 'jobs page' but I was curious to hear the opinion of someone who lives there.

Thanks! :)

Now I wish I had watched it - 60 Minutes did a report last night about Dubai. The trailer I saw said that Dubai is basically the physical manifestation of all the oil wealth in the middle east - it's phenomenally modern and cosmopolitan.

That said, I've also read that there are some surrounding areas that even the local gentry avoid like the plague. <shrug>

I, too, would like to know Typhoon's comments about living in Dubai as a foreigner.

From what I have seen (on TV) it looks like a nice place. However, they also warn about some of the surrounding areas. I don't know about anyone else, but I would not want to be worrying about my loved ones any more than I need to. Might be a great gig for the single person though!

Well if this helps I would like to take a sec and chime in.Dubai is the wealthiest place on earth! Michael Jackson now lives there, and a natural born Saudi citizen is allotted a 50-100K annual "freebie" check just for bieng a citizen!!!!(Any body know any single Saudi's):laff:? When I visited a "few" years ago I noticed one guy wwho had a 50-60" plasma that came out of the ground in front of his outdoor swimming pool!!!(just to give some clarity of the unfathomable wealth we are talking about here!)

I want to fly for Emirates now. What a great compensation package. :) Is Emirates an all heavy fleet? Typhoonpilot, did you write up a perspectives for JC? If not you really should. :)

note to self - Never fly Aviasca.
