Emirates near disaster on takeoff

Anytime someone takes off with their mode c off or entire transponder off I can’t help but wonder what other checklist items they skipped over.
Depends where you're trying to land. Some places charge landing fees based on publicly available transponder logs. So if it's later at night and you just want to pop in for a quick pickup and not get hit with the fee, turn the box off.

I mean, so I've heard.

Is something happening with LAX controllers these days? I got a runway crossing clearance going 80 knots down the runway on landing, my captain asks me to confirm again because he didn't hear. I'm thinking no problem, I quickly ask hey just confirm cleared to cross and I got yelled at how I need to turn my volume up and pay attention better. Like what? I just laughed, not worth my energy but what a waste of time to add in the snarky jab at the end.
Hit ‘em with the “standby” next time. They love that.

I don’t particularly care for the mid-clearance control transfer. Some guys will hear the call coming and say “I GOT IT!” while the controller is telling us where to exit. It usually creates a clunky transfer with some swerve or brake tap and I usually don’t get the read back right.

I think that if the airplane is equipped, the FO should be allowed to taxi.

1) Captain only maneuvers are dumb. When I do something for the first time, I want it to be when I’m sitting next to someone more experienced than me.
2) I think there’s a big difference in situational awareness between PM and PF on landing in terms of turn offs and what not. When you switch from driving to talking there’s definitely a moment of “ok which taxiway is that coming up next?”
3) You can almost always tell when the changeover happens, especially on RJs with no auto brakes.

4) “you’ve got a type rating, right?”

Am I missing something? My gut reaction is "Who cares what the flight director is saying," and "who cares what the altitude preselect is set to?" Unless there's something else going on that's a lot more complex, this just seems like a failure to do job #1 (fly the airplane.)

I guess I find all the technical discussion interesting, but ultimately meaningless as long as you have one of those stick or yoke things.

A million voices on PPRune just cried out, and were suddenly silent.....

It has to be an ADS-C transmission, ADS-B doesn't send out pre-select information, only GPS derived GS, location and altitude.

It's real interesting being in Europe and ATC queries why you haven't changed to the assigned altitude on your altitude selector yet.
