Emirates Direct Entry Captains

I have nothing against tprops. If I can get back to Mem in the left seat and it's got props I don't care, BUT I know the jet issue comes out when employers are looking to put guys in equip that is a jet. Last wave when purple was hiring they were looking for glass and jet.. Why? Cause they had "purple nuggets" (straight into widebody FO) and wanted guys that were already up to speed. There was enough of a transition to a "heavy" (no no.. A real heavy, NOT a -900/Q) and true intl ops. I hold no grudges towards props and agree it's almost a slap when a guy has thousands of tpic and is told to "go be a -200 FO". But I can see how some carriers may preference jet/glass when hiring into it.

There are guys at my company going from the metro to a heavy with little to no problem with the transition. We've had pilots go from tprops to 747's. There will be a learning curve in any transition, but nothing a competent and well studied pilot wouldn't be able to overcome.

With one particular carrier that told me my turbo prop time was worthless...it was a huge slap in the face because, while they're telling me this, they hired regional FO's with no PIC time into the right seat!

One thing that me and other turbo prop pilots have going for us is that when the glass fails or does something that you don't want it to do, I am absolutely certain that I can click off the automation and hand fly the aircraft within tolerable standards with confidence. If the captain becomes ill? No problem. I've been managing the workload of flying an aircraft single pilot for the 4 and a half years.

Yeah, I think someone got a little ahead of himself in that statement, still working on getting to the bottom of that.
