Why did UPS do this experiment with Purdue grads and why did they stop doing it? Just curious.

Not sure. We do stuff like that. Had a passenger operation doing charters for a while. Don't do that anymore, either. With pilots with thousands of hours of flying time and good experience backgrounds available (as there always has been), I don't see any need for such a program.
