I mean, it was pretty obvious why Mesa formed "Freedom Airlines", but I wasn't sure if there was a similar story behind CHQ/Republic.

Republic, before our new contract, was an alter-ego carrier designed to get USAirways Express flying under a j4j that CHQ pilots didnt not agree too. Later under a revised j4j Agreement CHQ pilot agreed too, but mgmt said it was too late. We went into negotiations with republic already starting to grow roots, but at the end Republic Airlines (Republic AirWAYS is the holding Co for Republic air and CHQ) flying was agree to be flown by the CHQ pilot seniority list. I guess its similar to the Song flying done by Delta LIst. Well eventually mgmt realized that it wasnt a good idea to have two identical companies, so what weve seen is that that CHQ is going to be a Embarer 145 family company and Republic is going to be the EMb170+ company. Make sense?

Disclaimer: I was not an employee of the company when all this was going on so this is all one sided information that Ive been given.

Actually, Song is just some weird flight number in the regular 757/767 bid package.

More or less fly LAX to FLL then fly a strange flight number from FLL to JFK with a strange paint scheme, and then JFK to LAX.

RP will be all 170s and Mostly in a different base, so bidding to RP will be like bidding a new aircraft and a new base, and getting a new ID. You cant bid back down once you go up in size here. Im intersted to see how it all works out. As long as people keep the one list moving ill be happy.

But you do go up in pay, right??

I remember reading about the pay rates for the 170s, but wasn't sure if it was Mid Atlantic or something. But they were pretty low. Hopefully it's a step up.

Does anyone know if Republic will be accepting pilots direct from TAB or Gulfstream? Republic is going to operate out of Louisville and, as such, will be likely to be used for positioning UPS crews on company paid commercial tickets. If they take direct entry PFTer's, I think this is something our pilot group should know about.....

We have a clause in our contract that only allows us to be positioned on certain approved carriers. It mainly applies to 135 charters and certain foreign airlines with not so good safety records. There are only about 10 135 outfits that UPS can use to position us and our union had a say in that.

With that in mind...I don't think our guys would be too keen on flying on an airline staffed with low time, PFT, F/O's.

No disrespect to anyone on the Chataqua seniority list...I'm just curious....

Republic will be staffed entirely by pilots on the Chautauqua seniority list, which is one of the things the pilot group obtained in the recent contract. To the best of my knowledge the company won't be taking any PFTers ... CHQ has historically taken Purdue graduates at lower times, but I don't know anything about them taking PFT kids.

The pay rates for the 170 are in the contract. FO's have a single scale for all aircraft types. The captains have three different scales, one for the 135/140, one for the 145, and a third for the 170.

It was MidAtlantic that agreed to what some thought were very low rates to fly the 170s. I haven't seen the rates, so I won't comment.

Thanks for the reply.

While I have no great love for 300 hour university grads in airline ops, UPS hired two Purdue guys in the early 90's as an experiment. They never hired any more like that but the one I know is a Capt now.

Woah! Where did this come from? And republic will most likely have flights into and out of SDF, but will not be HQ there. No there is not hiring agreement with any PFT outfit for Republic Or CHQ. I really dont understand where that "attitude" (for lack of a better word) came from.

The details are still be worked out. It is a different airline, so it requires the people who fly it to have the appropriate manuals and IDs etc...You can imagine what a hassle it would be when every month you have folks bidding back and forth between chq and rp and have to change manuals and ids etc...It would be nice to bid back and forth, and its what our Pilot group wants, but so far its yet to be seen if it can be done.

Currently as an FO I am no able to bid laterally to another FO seat in a different aircraft family, so the 170s mean little to me except for something to upgrade to later on down the line and current seniority list movement.

No attitude...just a question. Already answered by someone else. Not sure how I could have asked any nicer.....

It just comes off weird, and uncharacterstic of you. When you start questioning whether or not someones airline is safe enough and worthy enough of someone flying on them. I personally dont ship UPS b/c im afraid my box wont make it, Ive heard they may hire some low time people ...See how that comes across?

No Hardfeelings!

See my PM...it's not meant to be a safety question but a profession question. I brought up our union stance on 135's, ect, as an example of how our collective action allows us to pick and choose the carriers we fly with. I fully believe that our pilot group would choose not to fly on a PFT carrier if said PFT carrier was the primary choice that our company worked with because they happened to do a lot of trips out of SDF. I honestly think most of our pilot group has no idea of what PFT is but if they were edumacated on what it stands for...they would be dead set against it.

My "charactistics" are pro-profession and anti-PFT. I'm mostly a lurker here...I really don't post that much, but what I stand for should be no mystery...

As I said in the PM, sorry if I offended with the question but I felt it needed to be answered (and was by another guy who wasn't offended).
