EMB135 Pilots

Calling all EMB135 pilots.

I'm non-revving to Myrtle Beach in a couple of weeks. In past years this has been a CRJ or MD88. What's the chances of 3 sets of non-rev golf clubs getting on the airplane without getting left behind? Are there weight issues, bulk issues, other issues? I know the CRJ used to have lots of problems with golf clubs going to Myrtle Beach.

I would say there is a high percentage of golf clubs in any airplane going to MB...and I'm always surprised that there are small airplanes on the leg that can't handle the bags. Brilliant.

I do know the ATR is no problem. I'm worried about this EMB135 jet though.

Thanks.

Should be no problem. I'm guessing since it's a Delta painted 135 it will be Chitaqua so one of their drivers may be better qualified at answering.

Just from my observations the 135 has less weight issues than the 145, sometimes it has some CG issues cause it's so short requiring some shifting of pax, but weight is usually not a problem.

It may very well bulk out before it goes overweight in the back... so... three full-size set's of clubs could be a problem if it goes out full.

Bob, isn't it the same size bin as the 145?? I've only seen a 145 bulk out maybe 2-3 times, never a 135 bin even with 37 pax.

The bin in the 135 is smaller. The distance from the lav bulkhead to the bin door is shorter, but not 13 passengers worth of bags smaller. At least thats the case with the XJT 135s, I'm assuming that would be standard with the CHQ birdies.

Stacking, I've never bulked out a 135 or 145. Granted those were going to EWR and never saw more than 50 bags. I've been close to bulk in a CRJ, and even hit 3300 lbs structural once. BGR had some ski bags and some golf clubs, but nothing like what MYR would get.

Bob

That's what I was envisioning.

I remember a ways back people were furious because the golf clubs were always getting left behind. There's really only one reason guys go to MYR in Feb and Mar.

Maybe I'll ship them.

B-Man,

It is slightly smaller... as Oldtown said. I've bulked out a 145 many a time... especially going to and from Mexico.

That said... I think it's only a slim possibility that it will bulk-out... unless there are a lot of golf clubs going along with a lot of bags. My point was that I believe he'd run into a bulk-out situation before a over-weight situation on the 135.

I've bulked out a 145 bin. It was the 1st flight from MEM-IAH, so it had a TON of int'l connections. When people pack half of their house in a huge bag, and you've got about 30 people doing that on a plane, you can bulk out fairly quickly. That being said, I've never had a time where I wasn't able to get every bag on the plane. You just had to get creative on those early morning flights.

You shouldn't have that much of a problem . . . I haven't had to leave anybody (or their bags) in MYR.

On a related note, I carried a bowling team the other night . . . odd.

Maybe I'll ship them.

I assume you guys get 75% off FedEx too?

Did you know that when you ship stuff with FedEx using the discount your packages go non rev? I had no idea. But apparently, if there isn't room on the plane, they have to wait for the next on.

Only a real ramper knows how to stack a bin and not bulk out! :)
Obviously you've never worked a CRJ or ERJ flight to MIA with 97% of the bags all INTL connects!;):D Talk about some big and heavy bags. Almost all the bags were heavy tagged bags. I hated MIA flights outgoing and incoming!:banghead::panic:

Nope!

Southernjets dropped FDX and went with DHL so they gave our discount the boot.

That was an AWESOME discount too, I miss those guys. :(

I've never bulked a bin of revenue bags. Hit 3300 lbs in a CRJ once. 101 checked bags and 13 valet bags. Actually it was 3290. There was another time I was over 3000 lbs including expedite bags, but couldn't get any more on, so they waited a little more to get reunited with their owners.

Holy shhh! 101 bags in a CRJ? Since when did mainline decide to outsource transatlantic flying to the Regionals? "..enjoy stopovers in Greenland and Iceland on your way to Europe.." :panic:

A good number of them were bags that were left behind from an earlier flight. Bozos had 2 carts of bags for a -700 and brought out the half full one, and left the full one in the garage.

I hit structural, and could have gotten a few more in. The key on the really full bins is not half-assing the stack at the start. The crew on that flight, had said they had never been limited by 3300 lbs before, so the 100 + bag flights on a -200 are not that common.
